What?!? What's this? Lol. Yet ANOTHER China uber-tall comes out of nowhere. And it's in Suzhou. And just happens to be gunning for China's tallest building. So nuts, this country.
Any pics or renderings? |
It's been in the works for at least a year, at least that's how long SSC has known about it.
Sadly, no renders have been released. I just made a thread for this because the height was finally revealed, although I suppose the height may end up being different in the end. The tender does give a range after all. |
Some possible designs:

To me, proposal 2 is far and away the best.

The things I'd do for proposal 1 here in NY...
|
If they remove the pool and just keep the "eye of a needle" shape, proposal 2 will be a show stopper.

ECADI wins Suzhou Zhongnan Center—the highest building in China
2013.03.02 After fierce competition with many competitors such as TJAD, CAG and BIAD, ECADI won the bid for domestic design company of Suzhou Zhongnan Center on October 20, 2012. Suzhou Zhongnan Center is located in CBD core area, west of Jinji Lake at Suzhou Industrial Park with planned construction height of more than 700m, 138 floors above ground. Its total building area is nearly 500,000 m2, containing functions as super five-star hotels, office, commerce and serviced apartment. Except the Middle East, it will be the tallest building in China and even the whole world. http://www.ecadi.com/attached/image/...1450_63486.jpg http://www.ecadi.com/en/news.php?itemid=1048&PB_page=1 |
Futuristic! I'd have loved this in Manhattan or SF scaled-down, but will be amazing anyway. Lucky Suzhou.
|
The red square will be the footprint of the tower.

So the pair of pants is out? That sucks!

^ Awesome! I thought I saw the Gate of Orient in the photo labeled old rendering above. Good to hear. Thanks!

Those things in China are amazing, but this is just too tall. I don't like when something looks lone in a skyline. Who in the world does? So if they want a decent skyline, they'll only have to build a whole cluster, like a couple of dozens of megatalls like this to complement it. :D
|
The building on the lot is finally being demoed. :)

This is apparently now called the Rooster Tower. (Must not make cock joke:runaway:)

^ Looks a lot like another tower being developed in China, though the name escapes me at the moment.
On another note, that pair of pants is taking forever to put on. (Sorry, couldn't resist) |
