The Ground Breaking Ceremony of Sino Steel International Plaza took place on July 27th at the No. 1 site of Xiangluo Bay, Tianjing. Designed by MAD, the 358-meter-high building will be the landmark of the new economic district being created in the city. It is planned for completition in 2012.

Whoa.

Saddle Man Sep 16, 2008 4:00 AM

I like it!

MapleLeaf Sep 16, 2008 7:11 AM

Very futuristic.

It somehow reminds me of the Beijing Water Cube.

crazy weird! :D

ardecila Sep 18, 2008 6:34 AM

It reminds me of a 21st-century version of the Alcoa Building in Pittsburgh - metal companies are all the same.

It is like a different variation of Aqua tower currently being constructed in Chicago. A unique way to create a wave effect on the facade. I like it!

Tom In Chicago Sep 19, 2008 3:58 PM

This building is truly a work of art. . .

Ayreonaut Sep 20, 2008 1:06 AM

Love it.

NYC4Life Sep 20, 2008 4:30 AM

An impressive structure. Hope it gets built.

That's the first thing I thought of as well. Nonetheless, it looks quite interesting.

Hoodrat Sep 20, 2008 7:09 PM

too cool!!!

RLS_rls Sep 20, 2008 9:59 PM

Thats a really clever design, but is the roof actually going to be covered like in the rendering?

Fabb Sep 21, 2008 7:28 PM

A nice combination of fantasy and elegance.
Good job !

That's a little scary.

But nonetheless, this building looks fantastic.

Does anyone know if the facade is structural?

Stu Sep 22, 2008 1:26 AM

^As in a sort of exo-skeleton? Dunno. Doesn't seem to look that way.

This is a very strong design. Tianjin is getting some fine skyscrapers, though that 1800 + ft tower is not that great in the renderings at least, IMO.

Innsertnamehere Jun 3, 2010 11:52 PM

is there anything on this??????

arlekin_m Jun 4, 2010 12:28 AM

It's awesome, although the interiors look kinda space-pod-y, thus sort of dated... they'll have to handle those very carefully. :)

:previous: i thought of that building when i saw this too, anyways, there's a mega-thread over at SSC that covers all the buildings surrounding this, and they have pics of the construction, but i can't tell whether this one in particular is U/C

I don't know why but I find it to be beautiful and horrible...

Odd place for a cheese grater considering you can only get cheese in specialty stores for the most part . China is not a cheese eating kinda place . lol

Zerton Jun 10, 2010 8:28 AM

This is probably my favorite proposal

OneWorldTradeCenter Jun 10, 2010 1:52 PM

It's no proposal, it's already under-construction. Please move.

Tom In Chicago Jun 10, 2010 5:42 PM

^No it's not. . .

llamaorama Jun 11, 2010 4:30 AM

I love flying over Tianjin in Google Earth and looking at the monster steel production and coal export facilities there, its crazy.

Is that the same company as this headquarters building is for? I guess it's a little like the Chinese equivalent of the US Steel tower in Pittsburgh-larger, more modern, and newer, just like the respective positions of the two cities and the two companies. Both are weird architecture that will generally stand the test of time but never catch on.

bnk Jun 23, 2010 3:01 AM

Wow just found this work. I really like it and big time. I hope it takes off and ....

I will look into it deeper in the future but my inital reaction is YES. we can I hope....

rapid_business Jul 7, 2010 3:03 PM

Just found this thread, love it. Can someone link to the SSC thread that has more pictures of this?

My thoughts exactly. Flaunt the material you champion as a company in the design of your head office.

On the bright side, the neighbourhood gets a free hill.
