Ottawa Throwback Pics
A dedicated thread for older pictures of projects in their pre-completion or demolition phases. I love seeing them scattered through the threads, but here is a place to collect them.
I'll kick off: Chateau Laurier parking garage demolition, May 11, 2018. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...716bb0da_h.jpg |

Makes me wonder about how we can safeguard this site and it's photos. I don't see Flickr going anywhere but I know there are a bunch of old threads where the photos are simply gone forever. As an aside... does anyone know if my photo will disappear if I move it to another album on Flickr? I suppose I could test it out but if anyone flat out knows that would be great. |
I'm worried about something far more diabolical...SSP disappearing overnight like Emporis did. I had beers with J.OT13 and the owner of SSP a few years ago and it sounded like things were going well, but who knows now. I wonder what the State of the Union is now.

I have a crap load of these. Reminds me of an exciting time in Ottawa. Kinda makes me sad looking at these. The momentum is gone. There was a time when the proposals were coming fast.

Not all construction was without major problems. No, this is not a demolition. This building at 301 Elgin collapsed while under construction on March 31, 1966. As a kid, I saw the results. Shocking! One fatality.

Thanks for those throwbacks Harls! Weird to think that the Corktown Footbridge was approved under Chiarelli's reign. That was the first true cycling/pedestrian major infrastructure built by the City afaik. Bridges over the Queensway built before then don't count cause cyclists are not allowed to use them, and are more for drivers (see alternative to the Blair overpass Blair road, which has no sidewalk).

Ouch. Here is a 360 degree pano I took in December of 2006.

Blockbuster. Those were the days.
And look, Somerset House didn't look quite as bad back then. Imagine how much cheaper it would have been to fix it up at the time. |

Probably can't see any of the Gatineau side now from this angle now. Harley613, it's Hoggytime. Get out there and snap us a similar pic from the war museum! Don't make me pull out the d40x.. Quote:

Was digging through some old files looking for something and came across these.
I was lurking around here at that time but never posted. Was heading for.. something with wifey and told her are making some photo stops along the way. All photos are from June 23, 2013. Federal building on Vanier parkway. This thing took forever to build. Ended up a very nice building in the end. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...14e55733_b.jpg Tribeca East and Performance Court. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...07da0af4_b.jpg Flaherty Building https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b5406c8c_b.jpg Lebreton P2 I completely forgot about all the work being done to the pumping station. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a8a570db_b.jpg A wild Ponyboy admires some recently built Gardens. You can see the construction hording at Cathedral Hill to the left. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bbafc931_b.jpg About.. 17 pixels of actual Cathedral Hill. Must have been below grade still and had no shot. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1ba96549_b.jpg Welp. Until I find some more random hard drives or folders that's all I got for the moment. |
Was a big year for the Elgin face of the skyline.

These are awesome. Thank you for sharing.
