129-131 Wellington Street N | 4 fl | Under Construction

New stacked townhouse development going in front of the Design Review Panel. Rendering is in the latest edition of Novae Res Urbis. This will have 16 units and replaces what is currently an empty lot:

This isn't too bad, nice infill.

interr0bangr Sep 11, 2020 6:43 PM

Until they recently fenced this property up, I would walk through this lot on my way to work everyday. Happy something seems to be happening.

building permit issued here, and when I drove by this morning it looked like they had begun excavation for the foundations.

Any development in Ward 3 is very welcomed

spaghettisam Mar 28, 2023 6:39 PM

Kelly Street had been closed to traffic and a shoring rig was on site this morning when I drove by.

johnnyhamont Apr 4, 2023 3:42 PM

Who's the developer here?

My pre-emptive sympathy goes out to those who will live in basement apartments here.

atnor Apr 5, 2023 3:45 PM

Looks good!

It's pre-cast concrete.

Chronamut Mar 4, 2024 5:22 AM

..it's somehow even uglier than the render. What's up with the half-windows??

TheHonestMaple Mar 4, 2024 1:11 PM

I'm guessing they're going to paint it or something?

It looks literally identical to the render, other than the colour. Which im assuming they will paint it.

Innsertnamehere Mar 4, 2024 1:32 PM

It will almost certainly be painted, yes.

A stain actually.

..nope, it's not, window layout deviates quite a bit, on the front and sides.

The biggest deviation being the bizarre, FILLING IN of those windows - the front sides complete and the middle half-way.. very bizarre.. no bottom basement windows like the render - thinner windows, side windows don't reflect the render - top ones are narrower. No side windows on the top penthouses, So no, not identical to the render, and yes, worse looking than the render.

LikeHamilton Mar 6, 2024 7:11 PM

It is possible that they wanted more wall space inside but still wanted the look of all of the windows. I know there are other ways of doing it.

The building now has "jughead syndrome" - the windows looking like lazy half opened eyes.

I hereby dub thee "the jughead lofts"

ScreamingViking Mar 7, 2024 12:05 AM

There are a number of differences. The top level is different: the render was all glass, the build is not. There are no windows to a basement level. And the third level corner doesn't have that little step back on the east side.

Those half-windows are weird, but maybe there's reason for that. Stairwells and elevators?

Oh well. Given some of the uglies that have gone up in this town, I don't think this will rank among the worst. Hopefully whatever exterior colour treatment is applied will bear that out.

If only it had cornices. :P

Lol, it even has a "seam line" at the top for where a cornice could go! Problem solved!

ohhimark Mar 9, 2024 11:29 PM

The half windows are just weird.

Beedok Mar 10, 2024 2:56 PM

Looks like they dropped the basement?

Chronamut Mar 10, 2024 5:31 PM

I'm dubbing a new term for this look - commie lego-block.
