Creating a separate thread for the Austin FC practice facility

That's a nice looking facility!
I wonder if the trail is a nice spot for people to run their dogs in the future |

Boy, scrolling back, this image in particular really grinds my gears. I know, I know -- it's a suburban office park with a sports facility as an anchor . . . but holy geez, look at all those surface parking lots. That's the Parmer Heat Island in the making right there.

Have you... been over there? It's way worse in real life than it looks in that rendering.
The low density will ensure that it's somewhat quiet/non-hectic, though, which I guess is good for players' concentration. Still, my guess is that one day those lots will turn into infill development. |
park and ride
austin fc has talked about using all of that surface parking as a park and ride for games. kind of a good idea if that pub comes to life next to the pond, otherwise the closest bar is woodrow's i think. also, i think that trail running thru the middle of the photo is where the transmission line is located.

I do think you're right -- at some point in the distant future, some/all of that has the potential to go Broadmoor on us. Crossing fingers it's sooner. |
I still dont see how light rail will make it to techridge. the closest right of way is the old katy line that goes way east and cuts through my neighborhood.

Dirt is definitely moving. They tore up a whole bunch of trees. There are, like, piles of trees laying there.

Its just down the street from me. I was surprised had how fast they started moving on the dirt. One day there are cows and hay bales and next a good amount of dirt is tore up. I wonder if that Pond is open and ready. It would be a good place to walk instead of lake Pflugerville.

new renderings
Parmer Austin has some new renderings of the area around the training facility.

Thanks for posting the PDF mostly_afk!

So cool! "The Pitch" looks like it will be a fan experience area where people will be able to hang out before or after the games; play some volleyball, have a drink at the shipping containers, etc. Way more elaborate than I expected. It should be like a pre-gaming area for fans who will be able to take a shuttle to the stadium.
Living 2 minutes from this development, I'm really glad they're adding Sector 2 and Sector 5. It will make the practice facility feel more incorporated into the whole Parmer development. Also, thus far, none of the Parmer buildings have fronted Parmer the way these Sector 2 ones will. https://i.imgur.com/YUH6MAI.png The whole thing will help my property value before I sell in a few years. |
Some structures are going up
https://i.imgur.com/AhQZmh0.jpg I think this is the actual performance center. |

Wow that’s fast!
|
clearly this is beyond PROPOSED

They don't waste any time watering down the grass, just as it is laid down. Its going to be a beautiful practice facility when completed,

Are those centipedes sheds where they're keeping the lawn mowers and the rakes and stuff?? Looks kind of High Schoolish.
|
Well, it being soccer in America, MLS isn't a super wealthy league just yet. With continued support, maybe we can get it there.

And they're turning dirt on what looks like EVERYTHING planned around the practice facility right now. Not just the Verde portion of it.

First Austin FC video posted from the training center https://twitter.com/AustinFC/status/1347921074197909504
It's coming along, though. They're working on the Parmer Innovation Center right now and it's starting to get some height. |

Those guys really love high-fiving
|
The building reminds me of a mid century ranch style home.
|
|
I want the guys who lay out the grass to come re-do my yard. Obviously I don't want to pay for it, but maybe they have some leftover strips that they just need to get rid of? :)
And those parking lots are gorgeous. Can we all just soak those in for a bit? |

This has been discussed before, but I do think those parking lots will get infilled eventually with structured parking and denser mixed-use development similar to the Domain. But it may take a decade or two before the market gets there.

It's more than fine for Austin FC. It's a brand new team with a stellar stadium (the main focus) and great practice pitches for the pro team as well as the academy. These structures will serve their purpose and, if needed, they can be replaced or beefed up down the road.

I got a tour of the SDPC yesterday (sorry no photos). Despite the use of pre-engineered steel structure, it is really quite nice. It is still mostly in drywall stage without a lot of fixtures and equipment installed yet, but the spaces are very pleasant. There are high vaulted ceilings and abundant natural light from clerestories and all of the main spaces have floor to ceiling shop front windows and glazed overhead doors with views and direct access to the adjacent practice pitches. Overall, it is really quite state-of-the-art, but I think the best thing about it is that the academy facility is incorporated into the building. The youth development teams will be practicing and hanging out right next door to the Pros.
|
Sounds awesome. I like the idea of the young padawan being mentored closely by the pros. I think it will be a really cool compound, when it's all said and done.

The Philadelphia Union's facility is a cool adaptive re-use of an old machine shop and storage facility. https://league-mp7static.mlsdigital....ingComplex.jpg Some, like Toronto FC have fancy amenities like two heated grass fields (for obvious reasons). Here is an article on the league website with all of the training facilities. This article did not include details on Austin's $45m facility. Some of the dollar figures can be misleading as the team facilities only represent a small portion of a larger complex. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/...ining-facility |

Awesome. I'm still not a fan of the shipping containers. They feel cheap. But maybe it'll turn out cool? :uhh:
