Nice updates! Hopefully it gets approved
|
The rug shop in the corner has already moved out but the auto repair shop behind it on 12th is still going strong. A crew did dig some deep holes in the sidewalk this week, not sure what for.
|
I just noticed that on the old buildings for this project all have "Permit issued" signs. on them.

Are there any plans to do something with the major Market Van ness intersection itself? Roundabout? Fountains? Sculptures? Right now it’s a pretty depressing, desolate place.

^^Since Van Ness (including S. Van Ness) is a state highway, I'm not sure the city can reconfigure it on its own.
Also, remember that the Van Ness BRT terminates at this intersection and that would surely impact any redesign. |
Demolition started today, walked by and they were busy at work.

Great to hear!
Here is a presentation of the public plaza in front of 30 Otis. Looks nice. Hopefully, it will be secured and maintained. A couple random renderings as well: Looking back towards 'The Hub' https://www.gouldevans.com/images/content/OTI/08-OTI-View-from-South.jpg www.gouldevans.com Ground level https://www.gouldevans.com/images/content/OTI/01-OTI-Entry-Dusk.jpg www.gouldevans.com |

From this angle, it has a real One Oak vibe—materiality, window pattern, curvature, etc. |

No change appears from the May 3 aerial. However, whenever Malcom is on site it can be hard to tell what level of work is happening. Could all be subterranean. https://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad1/...-4DF8-BE70-DA83DDE1D772_zpszbb2dy4c.jpeg |

They are making real headway now in digging a deep hole:

The most interesting thing about this project (30 Otis) is how quickly it's getting built: Only about a year from the the first public notice of the proposal to turning dirt. Some of the other projects in "The Hub" have been around for years with no progress. |

I too would love to see a Mexico City style roundabout, but I'll keep my expectations low.
BTW, what is that square building in the old pic with all the round arches? It's one of my favorites to drive by. |

Time to move this project to the "under construction" section and I will so request. They have one crane up and functioning now and the base for a second one in place. They have already poured the ground-covering base and are installing rebar for the foundation pad or basement level.
It's hard to get a good photo--the workmen chased my away today twice as I was about to get something better than these--but I think they give an idea: https://uniim1.shutterfly.com/ng/service...ia/64734754041/medium/1568762095/enhance https://uniim1.shutterfly.com/ng/service...ia/64734754077/medium/1568762098/enhance So it's also time for you guys with the drones or better vantage points to shift your gaze from across the street where that project is approaching completion to this one also. |

Saw the 2 cranes from Market St. though an alley. Amazed at the size of the larger crane.
