A few new Skyline Shots
Hey guys
Here are a few more recent skyline shots. Also hoping to take an 8 crane shot tomorrow. Enjoy In the first shot you can see 4 cranes if you look close. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4418/3...d4039383_k.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4423/3...be4cdc87_h.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4382/3...9f59c312_k.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4333/3...a4fd8e19_k.jpg |
These are great! Cheers

Nice shots.
Those Darko buildings really blend into the skyline, which, in the case of this city, is not the best thing in the world. The Thomas building will be a nice addition. |
Great pics u p!
Great pictures urban planner!! Hi everyone!
Really thankful to ride in on your coat tail.. Took some pics during the eclipse of our skyline, and have been wanting to share them. Been following this board for years, and wanted to share once and a while. sorry they are so large in format.. I have already reduced them over half size their original image.. http://i.imgur.com/A5oXt3b.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3x5FDdw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ctGWZPk.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pG6hBPP.jpg |

Awesome pics Ray!! I was literally about to come on here and say how stunned I am at how gross those Darko buildings are. Who knew it was possible to build 1970's commie-blocks in 2016. Sheesh :slob: |
Here is one more the best of the best. I am hoping its posted large enough for you all to pick out the 7 cranes. There are actually 8 however believe it or not two of them line up perfectly from this vantage point. I wish the Sun was out it would have been much nicer. If you guys feel the full size would be better let me know. Its very large though.

Is that last shot taken from the Sydenham lookout over Dundas?

Lamb's Television City towers will do likewise, and the stuff proposed along Main West will block out some of the older buildings (like the dreaded Tower B apartments and that red brick skin job to the right of it in that panorama), and probably block the Regency too. The Connolly and Connaught will pop up in there flanking Landmark Place, if those actually happen. |

Love that night shot and the one from last spring. She looks pretty damn good in green.
Thanks. (I added to the Canada forum: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...92#post9221192... and just noticed the undees in the tree in that second photo lol) |

Yeah that night shot is awesome!

Nice! That layer of pollution north of the lake is unfortunate (but unfortunately still a common occurrence in the area, depending on the atmospheric conditions)
I wish 25 Main West had been built much taller and with more girth. It would stand out nicely in the skyline if it were scaled up. https://cdn.realtor.ca/listing/TS637...h4068384_1.jpg https://cdn.realtor.ca/listing/TS637...h4068384_8.jpg https://cdn.realtor.ca/listing/TS637...h4068384_7.jpg Source for images |
Some of the smog is smoke from several barn fires in Halton region on Sunday afternoon.
|
Perhaps combining the Gowlings parking lot and repurposed Old Bank of Montreal building will help camouflage!

Something great could be built on that space you mention. I hope it happens. There are probably measures that could enhance 25 Main W. today. But they may take away from the original intent of the design. We've already lost one of Stanley Roscoe's office complexes (The Undermount and MacLean Hunter buildings... converted to that gawd-awful Chateau Royale thing) and it would be a shame to lose another or even just cover it up from various angles. |

Nice to see it is NOT a Hamilton smokestack issue. :D |

Wow looks like an architects playground from the 70s. So glad they cared so much about design back then

@Larch that is so beautiful, amazing work! :worship:

Thats amazing.

Great drawing, Larch
The slab tower rocks. One of the most cost effective ways to build mass housing with good, livable layouts. They come from a period when Canada was both extremely optimistic and making massive strides/innovations in concrete construction. Long live the mid century slab. |

Our skyline, circa Dec 2000, from a Spec175 reflection on amalgamation. Looks like it was taken from the escarpment edge along Hwy 8, where it bends north toward Greensville.
EDIT: Not "new" but I figure this will be a good comparator... even today there are several towers that have altered the look. There wasn't much change visible from afar before The Regency went up 5 years ago. https://images.thestar.com/bk_Bo3nCE...n/new_city.jpg Source |

That is a really great photo, Larch. Hamilton looks "big city" in it.
(night views from the escarpment are my favourite) Was it taken near West 5th? Thanks! |
Yeah, if I came across that shot somewhere without anyone telling me anything about it - it would take a while for me to realize that's Hamilton.
I can imagine how that same shot will look like in 5 years. |

This angle will probably be one of the best at showing the changes from the things that are being built now or will be soon -- Cobalt, Mac grad residences, Darko's new one at King and Queen, RC3, 71 Rebecca, TV City, Main W. between Caroline and Hess, etc.
|
that's a great shot of Hamilton's skyline! can't wait to see that same angle in a couple of years!
|
I work in a lot of different buildings throughout downtown Hamilton and would love to share some of my photos of the city .... how would I do that?
|
I usually upload to Imgur or Flickr, which then gives a code that can be used to post photos in forums like this :)
