To start off the second incarnation of this thread, here are some photos of Calgary's West Springs neighbourhood. A medium-density(2007 people/km2) suburb on the outer edge of Western Calgary.

And this building is under construction as part of the Live/Work development across the street. The development includes a retail mall, office building, a mixed use office/residential/retail building, and this residential/retail building. This particular building is called Eighty5nine.

I was going to say that I like Swift Current, it's got a very Midwestern feel that I've always found appealing.

College Quarter is a long term development project by the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. It combines new student residences with sports and academic facilities, an arts and cultural centre, and commercial and mixed-use development to help integrate it into the adjacent neighbourhood. The College Quarter Greenway links it all to the main campus.

The first buildings, the Undergraduate Student Residences, and Graduate House, along with the first phase of the Greenway represent the first steps in this project. See College Quarter Master Plan.

Old St. John's from Destination St. John's on Facebook:

http://i40.tinypic.com/20tnrk8.png

Amazing how small it is. You can see the entirety of downtown as well as about half of the old area of the city, with rowhouses and so on. It extends to the left and below this view. So tiny. :D Hard to believe how much... history and life... can be in such a small space.

So weird how Signal Hill is almost completely bare while the Southside hills are fully forested.

Indeed, I had no clue of just how compact the whole arrangement was.

It looks much larger from the ground, the west end is so far away from Signal Hill that you can barely see it from there; and that angle always shortens the whole harbour and city!

^^ It's really cool to watch from the hills! I went to right where the bottom camera shows (the bottom right corner with the people there .. yeah I was one of them lol) and the hills have people all over them watching and on the other side .. when the ship starts to pass through all the people on the ship cheer and everyone waves and the people on the hills cheer and wave back lol even some cars from the other side on that road were honking as they left. quite the neat experience :)

Dr Awesomesauce Sep 11, 2013 11:40 PM

That's a toight squeeze. Cheers for that.

Chadillaccc Sep 12, 2013 12:46 AM

That is awesome! That ship must have azimuth thrusters, that is some amazing maneuvering capability.

These bike lanes have got to be among the best in North America. New York apparently has some nice ones now, too. It's heartening to see how cities on this side of the pond are starting to "get it" about proper infrastructure for cyclists. Toronto still has a long way to go on this front.

There was a kerfuffle on these boards a while back about whether Vancouver's skyline was Manhattanesque. I don't think anyone can deny that this shot here really is reminiscent of Manhattan.

Definitely agree, that is a Manhattanesque view.

Vancouver looks great in most of those shots!
