What is your ride?
I'm curious what motorized vehicles SSP Vancouver members drive. Maybe four legged vehicles too like horses and goats.
My car is a 1990 Toyota Celica GT 5 speed manual, just my for fun evenings and weekends car. Picked it up for cheap, runs really well. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...82961edb-3.jpg My wife's car (formerly our one car) is a 2007 Mazda 5 GT also 5 speed manual, small car that's awesome on space yet still fun to drive, but I prefer the Celica when we don't need all that space. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSCF1594.jpg |
Well, my daily driver is:
http://super97.files.wordpress.com/2...n-f1.jpg?w=350 source :D (we're talking about dreams, right?) My guess is that a lot of people here have this as their ride: http://www.bcbudget.gov.bc.ca/2004/s...o_skytrain.jpg source Especially those of you that don't have a family. |
I actually opted not for the older model Bombardier ART Mark II, but the newer model. However, once I find myself a new job, I'll be picking up a 2002 black Golf GTI 1.8T. *drool*

Well my U pass just expired, but here's what I've got otherwise.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/IMG_1624.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...d3cf5263_o.jpg 92' 16 valve GTi, gets taken to autoX every so often. Usually used to get me to skiing. It's a 5 speed, minor mods. It's begging for a 2.0FSI engine from a new GTi though. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSC_0466-1.jpg 09' Ninja 250 as my usual driver. Gets about 3.5L/100km, cheaper than a 1 zone bus pass to run and maintain. http://www.greenwit.com/Skateboards/...ek_Shuttle.jpg 600W electric skateboard for trips under 10km. 0.13g/km CO2 output. I usually use it to commute to UBC on nice days. Then a couple different pedal bikes. Ones a junker road bike that I used to commute on last summer until I got my motorcycle, and a Norco Aline for fun. I like my gadgets :) |
Imported this from a dealer in Tokyo a few months back. Been a dream car of mine for a long time.

I have a 1995 chevy s-10 pickup. regular cab long box with the 4.3L vortec. it's a money pit but pretty reliable at the same time. I don't have a pic off hand and its late but I will get one up soon
|
I actually have two cars. This one is my daily commuter and road trip ride, a 2004 Chrysler 300M Special, which I have lovingly named Mia. Lots of fun in the twisties and VERY comfortable.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-a...83_5333358.jpg And my other baby, my 1997 Dodge Avenger ES V6 named Lucy. Great on gas, and lots of fun throwing around a corner. I haven't used it in a while as I am currently completing an engine rebuild, but she still runs like a champ after 250,000 kms. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-a...37646_8900.jpg |
This is my ride in Montreal, my 2006 Cadillac CTS 2.8 210-hp V6.
I Love it. It isn't so good on gas but not as bad as many think. http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/3167/img0133kw.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us Don't really need a car in Vancouver. When you live downtown, everything is walking distance or a skytrain ride away... or I just bum a ride with my friends :) |

Here's me in my Toyota RAV4 making the jump to hyperspace:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4050/...b432c082_b.jpg The thing is actually pretty gutless, and sucks balls on the highway, but it's decent in town, and not bad when I want to get in touch with my inner redneck and climb some hills and boot around on the forestry service roads. |
2010 model. Diesel engine, doesn't turn well, tops out at 13.5km/h, can't get it started on cold Sunday mornings, and costs way too much - but the only option for me.

I'm thinking of picking up a few new models in a few weeks...

I suppose this can be the thread where I get to be pretentious by saying I don't have a car, and probably have better calves. :haha:
Of course on the rare occasion I do venture outside my comfort zone, it is usually by taxi. Cars really aren't my thing anyways. If I ever did want one, it wouldn't be a very nice one :P |

Ahhhh what the hell. My 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Can't drive anything without a V-8. It's just the need for speed. ;)
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/9...herokee13a.jpg And my summer toy sitting under tarp for most of the year - the '65 'vette convertible. And she's how a real street machine should hum. ;) http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7164/7339182x.jpg Hosted by ImageShack |

All work and no play... and, well, I live within 3 blocks of everything I like, need, or want. Small World! |
I currently own a '99 Plymouth Neon, I've owned it since it was brand spanking new. I calculated that I've made at least 15 round trips through the mountains to Vancouver and Calgary over the course of my ownership of it. I don't use it much these days as I walk to work everyday and have the calves to prove it. I also take transit frequently but it is nice having a car in times of need, like out of town drives or groceries. I don't take many pics of it but this may be the most recent, heavily processed picture I have of it:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/...ee9b61ec6c.jpg If I could do it all over again, I'd buy a classic car and save on the many years of car payments I endured. |

My '07 jeep liberty. This was taken on an off roading trip up near chilliwack |
Nice vette, I've been looking for a hardtop of that same generation but I don't want to spend the amount of money people are asking for them. Ideally I'd get one with a dead drivetrain as I'd want to drop in a LS6/LS7.
My current ride consists of an uninsured jeep cheeroke that has never been washed. Even my bike hasn't been taken out since moving d/t as I walk or take the train everywhere lately. |
i drive a 2000 chevy bazer and my wife drives a 2003 mazda tribute.
i do not care what the fundy enviro's say, I will always love driving trucks. it seems every weekend i find myself hauling crap to the dump, going to ikea, or piling in tons of people. my only regret is that my chevy is american made (and it shows) and the mazda tribute is too small for the wife and kids. http://lawrencevalley.com/AutoMartMo...s/image084.jpg http://lawrencevalley.com/AutoMartMo...s/image084.jpg http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...45789.1-lg.jpg http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...15/145789.html |
2004 Volvo V70 R, 5GT (tiptronic). No picture yet, I'll have one up soon. Just got it a couple weeks ago and I love it. I look forward to ski season again.

Nice rides everyone!
I wish I didn't want or need a car, life would be so much simpler if I lived in town convenient to transit and close to a Zip Car or C.A.N. hub, I'd have an extra $12,000 a year in my pocket. One problem is that I love driving standard, so I'd have to have at least one car, but that would be my Celica probably, bought it outright and only need to pay insurance, gas, and I do my own maintenance, and just rent a sedan, minivan, pickup, or SUV car share as required. |

I was in the same situation as you. Cheap car that I owned. I only paid around $85/mth for insurance and around $60/mth for gas. I did my own maintance so it was dirt cheap. Yet when I looked at taking transit more. The only way it would financially benefit me is if I completely parked the car and did not have any insurance on it. Luckily though I do live in the city so I haven't had any major need for a car. |
How did I know this thread would be over-run by preachy public transit users...
|
:previous:
Overrun? Hardly. |
"I don't need/want a car, I take public transit, everything is so close to me, blah blah blah"
Then don't post in a thread about what car you drive |
Quote:
From what I see, most transit users are thankful they do live in a city where they can take transit so easily because they (I) would love a car but can't afford it. Driving and working on a car are two of the awesome things in life. Until I have the money, however, Skytrain it is. One day soon, it'll be a lovingly restored '90 VW Corrado G60, Tornado Red. Can't wait :) |
BANNED. lol.
I went two years after college without a car just fine. I still consider owning a car a luxury, it's something many families are taking for granted. I ran the idea of moving to town close to transit and a car share hub, selling the Mazda 5 and keeping the Celica with my wife and she agrees with the idea. It would save us heaps of money. I'd keep the Celica because I still want a car to call my own and we'd keep it insured because meh $100 a month is not too bad since the car would be shared between my wife and I and we may need it say middle of the night when our baby is sick and there's no transit available to get to the nearest 24 hr pharmacy or emergency room. We really don't need two cars, even one car would be simply nice to have, but I just really wanted something to tinker around with. I don't care about the Mazda anymore to be honest, I'm going to sell it as soon as we move back to the city. |

I really want to know |
Well, here is my ride in Canada.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1134/...6f0417b3_b.jpg It is a 2006 Pontiac G5 Pursuit, I bought it brand new, and it is sad how quickly the years pass, haha. It is nothing spectacular but I like it, it has taken me on many road trips to the Okanagan and the Island, and it has been carrying my camera equipment for years (and it is good on gas!). It has almost all the options except leather seats. Also, it is standard by my request, since I have never wanted to drive automatic (that takes all the fun out of driving). Of course I also take skytrain, WCE and walk when I can, but I have always loved driving, and always will! (when there is no traffic, hehe) Unfortunately I have no pics of the car I drive in Japan without my wife in them, and I know she would hate for me to post a pic of her on this forum, haha! It is a small red Toyota hatchback. |
I sold my car in Canada, so I'm at the mercy of friends/the bus/skytrain while in Vancouver. Staying in Kelowna is a bitch; I have to get my parents to drive me everywhere.
In Shanghai, it's the subway during the day and taxis at night. |
Considering I'm living on a student budget and that I live in an area with very, very good transit service in a very walkable area in the City, it won't be for awhile until I get my own car.....when that time comes I think I'll be looking at a Volkswagen or a pre-owned BMW.
A friend of mine actually recently bought a Smart Car, but it doesn't seem so smart if you get hit by a semi... |
You could be driving a Dodge Ram with a hemi but youre still gonna get fucked up by a semi
|
My daily driver, 05 'Vette, actually gets 26-28 mpg on the highway and is a lot more fun than a Prius...
http://www.bcgolfpages.com/images/c1.jpg My second vehicle for the fall/winter time + camping season... basically whenever I need to go anywhere you can't go with a sports car. 96 Ford F250 with offroad mods for when I trek hundreds of KM into the bush. Shot in Jasper a few months ago. http://www.bcgolfpages.com/images/c2.jpg I actually don't drive a lot though. Spend a lot of my time downtown where my GF lives and we just walk everywhere so my car only gets me to and from work since it takes me 20 minutes by car but 1 1/2 hours by bus 1 way. |
this is my ride in town:

Should any of you need to upgrade...
Looks like the Rolls dealership on 5th is almost open. Might be getting ready for an Opening tonight or tomorrow. Two or so cars inside. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1159/...f2426426_b.jpg My Pic. |

Even semi vs. semi, sure you would survive the initial impact, only to have the tons of goods behind you crush you with its momentum. Lots of 'vettes here! Distill3d, company Rover or your own?? |
I'm too lazy to post my own picture but this Mk5 GTI looks very similar to mine (similar rims/colour etc.)...
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/vdubbaz/1.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/vdubbaz/1.jpg It's the perfect city car in my humble opinion :) |

(I was also too lazy to find an actual pic of either the Rover or the Versa) |
I'm not a bus person (nor do I agree with the concept of buses or the subjugation to their flaky routes and schedules), so until they build the subway to Point Grey, I'll be one of the stinking, polluting, hypocritical masses, commuting in either my mom's womanly sedan or my dad's motorbike:
Since everybody's lazy here, the first pic is generic... the car's not home currently and i'm too lazy to wait. http://images.passionperformance.ca/...9_Lexus_IS.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9841/dscn2394.jpg |
