I moved some very old Hamilton threads to this section
|
|
I've posted a proper tour of Landsdale. It really is a great neighbourhood, and I think extremely underrated. I noticed some renovations and restorations over the past couple years. Retail on King and Barton is still very weak, but who knows what the future holds? The housing stock is amazing--this neighbourhood could be one of the best in Canada if gentrification ever happened.

Have you done Chedoke area yet Flar. I haven't been in that area in years. There are some nice houses in that area too.

Thanks Flar, missed that tour. :)

Brand new Kirkendall tour--a more in depth exploration of the eclectic housing in North Kirkendall

^^look up at the first post of this thread^^
I've now added links to my non-Hamilton tours |

Loving all the additional tours! :)
Thanks for posting them all and thanks for taking the time to photograph them in the first place! |
flar you should publish a book

Flar, Smithville would be another area that would be good to get photos of. Many older houses there plus that historical train station as well.
|

I enjoyed the London one. The few times I've been there for shows I walked around what seems to be a decent downtown with a good mix of establishments. Hamilton could learn from just about every other mid sized city - none of them effed it up quite as bad as us. Well, maybe Brantford.
|
Yep, I've only been to London about 3 times but I enjoyed it. Kinda felt like a really small version of Toronto downtown.

Not my photos, but very interesting.
Hamilton Industry in 1913: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=166551 |
I squeezed a few photos in during my last weeks in Hamilton. This is one of the last tours, North Stipley.

don't make me cry:(
|
You really should look back at all your photos and with the aid of a few maps, create a glossy coffee table book. Even if you self-published, I'd buy it.
|
me too. I'd love to have something people coming from out of town could pick up and leaf through in my living room and see the city through (and i'd enjoy owning it too!)

Last new photo tour of Hamilton by me:

Last neighbourhood tour (actually a few areas). These aren't new, just some old photos I dug up and remastered.
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=168229 I think I will put together a grand finale and final index in the main photo section in a couple weeks. |
I know this issue's been out for a few weeks already, but I saw one of Flar's photos today when I picked up this month's View magazine - proper credit and everything. Has that happened before? That was pretty neat to see anyhow.
|
I submit a photo to View magazine every week, usually around page 3 or 4 I think.
|
I don't read it very often, as you can tell ;) But neat nevertheless.
|
For the sake of completeness, I think I'm going to make up one last neighbourhood tour for Hamilton, a compilation of shots from James North, which I purposely avoided when I did the Beasley and Central tours. I did a James North tour a long time ago, but it wasn't up to the standards of some of the other tours.
In the meantime, some of you may be interested in my first Ottawa neighbourhood tour: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=168474 |
Instead of making a new thread, I resurrected the old James North thread: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=141853
I've also now posted the grand finale and complete set of links in the main photo section: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=168601 |
Oh yes, thanks for looking at the all these photos over the past few years
|
The pleasure was all ours. :(

The original Durand "remastered"
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=118098 I wanted to have better pictures of Durand for posterity! |
I'll update this index (first post of this thread) from time to time with my recent tours.
It's quite interesting to see the architectural similarities and differences between Southern and Eastern Ontario. Here are a few since I've moved: Merrickville, Ontario (very well preserved 19th C village) http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=169848 Ottawa's Sandy Hill neighbourhood (lots of mansions and embassies) http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=169263 Hintonburg neighbourhood in Ottawa (working class) http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=168474 |
