Time For Something New

Each day for the next 5 days I will post a new clue. The idea is to guess what building I am thinking of. It is a popular building.

What building am I?

Clue one:
I was opened for business on May 5th 1913.

IronWarrior Nov 30, 2008 8:01 PM

I'd say the Library on Main Street West...they moved out of there old building and Hamilton's first Art Gallery occupied it after that.

MsMe Dec 1, 2008 6:49 PM

Clue 2:
I am a 2 floor building.

SteelTown Dec 1, 2008 6:54 PM

Bank of Montreal building?

No. :)

Missed this post yesterday, sorry about that. :)

MsMe Dec 2, 2008 6:19 PM

Clue 3:
I am located on Main St. W.

BrianE Dec 2, 2008 8:11 PM

uuummmmmm. Wesdale Secondary?

FairHamilton Dec 2, 2008 8:14 PM

I think IronWarrior got it right, as the Carnegie Library.

MsMe Dec 2, 2008 8:22 PM

I should have played this a bit differently. IronWarrior already guessed it.

Anyone else want to try it doing it the right way? Keep answers quiet till the end. Or pm them to the person what your guess is.

It was the library.

I was trying to post this before FairHamilton posted, but this @$@#$ computer froze on me.

davee930 Dec 2, 2008 8:24 PM

Dam I was going to say the Woolworth building but that opened 9 days before May 5th.

FairHamilton Dec 2, 2008 8:56 PM

Iron Warrior got it after the first post. Don't use dates, as a quick Google search with the date and 'Hamilton' will usually find the building.

Here's one from me.

I'm like a "Diamond in the rough".

MsMe Dec 2, 2008 9:05 PM

Yea I kind of goofed on that.
Brain needs dusting. :)

MsMe Dec 3, 2008 1:51 AM

Is it located downtown?

MsMe Dec 3, 2008 3:00 AM

is it Ivor Wynn Stadium?

crhayes Dec 3, 2008 3:12 AM

The entire city of Hamilton? :haha:

FairHamilton Dec 3, 2008 2:06 PM

Nope, and nope (but funny).

Clue #1: I'm like a "Diamond in the rough".

Clue #2: Products once made here, were "to die for".

FairHamilton Dec 3, 2008 9:24 PM

No guesses today, so here's another one.

Clue #1: I'm like a "Diamond in the rough".

Clue #2: Products once made here, were "to die for".

Clue #3: Try to think, "outside of the box"

I'll be back in the morning with another perhaps easier clue. But, I'm going to make you work for the answer. I'm not going to give it way :)

MsMe Dec 3, 2008 9:59 PM

studebaker cars?

Great guess, and I can see that guess from the clues so far. But nope. Try again.

MsMe Dec 4, 2008 3:50 AM

Hamilton Cemetery

FairHamilton Dec 4, 2008 3:54 AM

Nope.

FairHamilton Dec 4, 2008 11:44 AM

Is anyone besides MSME even playing??

Clue #1: I'm like a "Diamond in the rough".

Clue #2: Products once made here, were "to die for".

Clue #3: Try to think, "outside of the box"

Going more obvious now.

Clue #4: If you drop by my location we'll call it "even steven"

matt602 Dec 4, 2008 1:12 PM

I was going to guess Consumers/Dominion Glass but I don't think it fits the clues too well.

You are right, they don't fit. Anyone else care to hazard a guess?

If no one gets it, I'll be back this afternoon with another clue.

highwater Dec 4, 2008 5:43 PM

I'm lurking, but completely clueless.:(

LikeHamilton Dec 4, 2008 5:52 PM

The Pearl Company on Steven Street that is now an arts and performance facility. It used to be the Evel Casket Company.

Clue #1: I'm like a "Diamond in the rough".

Clue #2: Products once made here, were "to die for".

Clue #3: Try to think, "outside of the box"

Clue #4: If you drop by my location we'll call it "even steven"

MsMe Dec 4, 2008 5:58 PM

I don't know certain areas of the city even though I have lived here my whole life. So if LikeHamilton is correct, I never even heard of that place. :(
So I wouldn't have gotten it.

Yea, we have a winner!!! Yes, it's the Pearl Company, so named because of the pearls between the floor boards (plastic pearls, as it was once a costume jewelry factory). CBC's program GO recorded a show there a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately I learned of it too late and the tickets were already sold out.

Clue #1 - I was thinking jewelry - Costume Jewelry Factory. Mentioning Pearls would have been a dead giveaway.

Clue #2 - I was thinking of the Evel Casket factory

Clue #3 - I was thinking of the time it was a box factory, but it could have also meant a 'pine box'

Clue #4 - It's located at an even number on Steven Street, 16 Steven.

Good work LikeHamilton, and MsMe I'm glad you learned something new about Hamilton. That's great!!

MsMe Dec 4, 2008 6:16 PM

I don't even know where Steven St. is. I never knew about that part of the city at all.

MsMe Dec 4, 2008 6:18 PM

How about the winner chooses next place?

It was on at the same time as the City Hall rally, so just as well. ;)

Could have done both. It's live on the east coast, but on tape delay here.

We've been twice before and it's weird watching and listening to the show, then getting in your car and listening to the end over again :)

Bingo! It's the Pigott Building.

Clue #1: Million Dollar Baby It cost $1M to build in 1928-29

Clue #2: Something in common with the Ontario 'Age of Majority' It's 18 floors, which is the age of majority in Ontario. I know I thought it would different like 19, but apparently it's 18. I went with a Fed government webpage, http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/canada-...ajorite-en.asp

Clue #3: Was the first 'one' in Hamilton It was Hamilton's first skyscraper.

Way to go Emge.
