This is going to be an amazing city. Everything already looks great, and I especially love that box. I can see already that this city will be a long lasting success. Pease keep at it!

verticalextropy Dec 20, 2007 12:02 AM

Hehe, I knew you were gonna love that box, and expect a lot more in the future.

Aleks Dec 20, 2007 12:13 AM

Awesome Vertical. Are you using Kerk for those renders?

This is going to be a great city. I was thinking about making renders of my city too but it's too big to add lights and people so I'll just stick with Sketchup. Besides reners take too long and I'm impatient.

verticalextropy Dec 20, 2007 12:23 AM

Thank you Aleks, thank you Dac! I am using Kerky and my own textures and actually no lights but the sun (xcept in that one) as it makes it so much faster (less than 10m so far but it's only 4 buildings)

Aleks Dec 20, 2007 1:07 AM

Only 4 buildings just now....Wow buddy, you go a lot o' work to do.

So all your shots will be rendered? Oh, you should give a little details and history on some buildings.

Mocholate Dec 20, 2007 8:38 AM

Very neat

verticalextropy Dec 20, 2007 1:02 PM

thaks mo! it's cool to make a rendered one leik RX

Mocholate Dec 20, 2007 2:03 PM

Yes !

I like shiny

December 20, 1972

It was a glorious morning in the valley as Midas Mulligan Jr. cut the ribbon of his new project. At the same time his archrival Ellsworth Hootey was preparing to do just the same.
Two huge properties occupying two lots each have been inaugurated today just a block from each other:

Mulligan's "Hotel Bauen" rises 109 meters above the ground and offers 4 (other sources will say 5) star accomodation along its 33 floors.

verticalextropy Dec 21, 2007 1:28 AM

And Hootey's 138m tall towers leased mostly to the credit insurance firm "Phi"

Aleks Dec 21, 2007 1:35 AM

Awesome, your Sketchup abilities have improves faster and faster. I like the Phi Towers more. Those are nice looking. What you should do is convert meters to feet so all the lazy people like me don't have to. :D

verticalextropy Dec 21, 2007 1:43 AM

Thanks Aleks!
The Bauen is 357 ft tall while the phi towrs are 452.

verticalextropy Dec 21, 2007 1:44 AM

oh Aleks, forgot to tell you, I should have followed your adviced of building a road grid before hand!

Aleks Dec 21, 2007 1:50 AM

Yeah, I knew this would happen. Land scape basically makes a city. Literally. It allows you to decide what goes where and how a place looks or will look.

foxmtbr Dec 21, 2007 4:05 AM

Stunning!

Tanster Dec 21, 2007 4:37 AM

this city is so real looking

Austin55 Dec 21, 2007 4:51 AM

umm, wow! that was a surprise. You went from hand made to textures. It looks way more realistic.

lets hope it doent end up like its name:haha:

Is this your first time working with textures?

verticalextropy Dec 21, 2007 1:58 PM

Dac, the city still in the 70s so you'll see more boxes on this district for a while,
Fox, Tanster, thanks I'm blushing.. Austin, thanks, this is the first time I work with renders and textures (I just got a camera! :) all the txtrs were made from pictures of Buenos AIres ive just shot - (school is over for the summer!!!!!)
How did Mulligan's Valley ended up? Wasnt the only city that survives the breakdown of civilization? I'm just happy it's first on google!

verticalextropy Dec 21, 2007 7:05 PM

The Lindberh's been doubled in size, and some new beggining of the century buildings.

I especialy like the lowrises:tup:

verticalextropy Dec 21, 2007 9:49 PM

oh golf, rite, rite!

Aleks Dec 21, 2007 11:03 PM

Wow that's nice. The Lindberh's Place looks way better now and you're so lucky. You guys have Summer down there while we have Winter.

Patrick Dec 22, 2007 11:43 PM

AAJAHAHA ilove it!

verticalextropy Jan 4, 2008 5:30 AM

It's been a couple of weeks, I began my summer vacations, been swimming in the ocean a lot, but that doesnt mean i got too far away from SU. Mulligan's found its location, on the South Atlantic shores of URuguay, and it's now a Peninsula not a Valley. So here's an update! Enjoy.

Aleks Jan 4, 2008 10:10 AM

Wow, Awesome. Once this is filled in it will look great! It had been a while since we got an update. I see 3 Chicago styled buildings. I'm guessing it will be a Chicago based city? Or a mix?

Patrick Jan 4, 2008 11:10 AM

WOWWW. This city is really in the 70's?

Dac150 Jan 4, 2008 8:21 PM

Looks great vertical. Keep the boxes coming.

Theres Definatly nothing wrong with that! Chicago is A AMAZING CITY. I love yours! I dontcare to much for the tallest,it looks lost. The circularbuilding is Amazing! it reminds me of LA. Very very nice job.

verticalextropy Apr 13, 2008 1:45 AM

I'll continue with this city and move some of the older ones that i like.

here's a new fine piesce of real estate: Kong Center, I know, SC rippofff but it just came to my mind.

http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/9...gtower2zw0.jpg

Aleks Apr 13, 2008 3:33 AM

I love the crown, makes it look very classic while the main floors make it look very modern. There are a couple of things you should add to it like some trading floors under every step or every 2 steps. That makes the building look less bland and adds more excitement to it. Use the offset tool and offset every roof part with like 2 feet then use the push/pull tool and push the newly formed shape like 3 feet down. It adds like a roof handrail and it makes the building more realistic. And finally just add a base, make some arched entranced or something so that it's more realistic and adds flavor to the building.

Great that you're back Vertical! I still love your boxy towers and the Lindbergh Palace.

verticalextropy Apr 13, 2008 3:40 AM

thanks Aleks! I just popped it up in 20 mns but I was working on a base, and I'll add some detail as you mentioned.

Peter Apr 13, 2008 4:12 AM

I can't believe i missed this city. This is awesome. I love that old shot you posted of the bottom of the Hootey's tower. The curves in that are totally 70s style. This is a great city. The new skyscraper is really cool too. You are a good renderer. I look forward to seeing more. :)

Patrick Apr 13, 2008 4:36 AM

I love the Kong Center, reminds me of the Library Tower in LA. I suggest pulling up the setbacks on the bottom of the building, giving it a more sturdy look, for example like the Library Tower or Sears Tower. The building lacks a long middle boring part, like the ESB and Chrysler Building, you know what I mean? Too many middle setbacks.

verticalextropy Apr 13, 2008 5:07 AM

patrick, i know what you mean.
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3...gtowersul3.png
It reminds me of that tower too, but guess which tower in asia inspired the pointy shape?

thanks Peter!

I still don't know if they're gonna be twins, but now hte tower is 342 meters tall to the crown and 109 floors, its base being a 50 m square.

get rid of one tower, two may be a little imposing on the skyline

verticalextropy Apr 13, 2008 8:54 PM

you're right wright,

How do they look now?
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/4748/towwersiv8.jpg
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3051/cmopnqn9.jpg
I'll do a connecting atrium between them, and perhaps a (low) skybridge.

Back to Mulligan, I've remade the lay out, this is how it's gonna be now:
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1...wlayoutmz7.png

please some comments, suggestions, criticisms, both on buildings and the new lay out

Aleks Apr 14, 2008 2:16 AM

I like the new grid. Specially because there's curved on the corners. Actually, I like the shorter one more than the tall one. I think you should make two of the shorter towers. Make one with a domed roof and the other with a flat crown.

You should place them on the blocks near the top part of the tip of the peninsula. Get what I'm sayin? I'm too lazy to point to them and then upload the picture.

Austin55 Apr 14, 2008 2:19 AM

the grid looks great, but methinks it gonna end up bieng waaay to thin.

I do love the towers, the shape rocks, but the textures dont seem to fit with the tower. But keep up te good work, cant wait to se it come together.

verticalextropy Apr 14, 2008 2:38 AM

Thanks Aleks and Austin!
Aleks: Good idea make two of the shorter towers with different domes/crowns and integrating them with the taller one which i still like. I needed some ideas as to how to finish that building.
Austin: The txture is 2kb i did in paint, they don't quiet fit with the tower, i'll try new ones. what do you mean btw, the horizontal lining of windows? PErhaps it deserves a grid kinds of txtr?
I don't think the blocks are too thin.

Thanks both for the advice, now here's what i've been doing
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/9918/rafflesmy4.jpg

i speculated too much in that reder! (glass's become mirrors....)รง

there's a new render in the making (say 15mns?)

the new site of the Lindhberg reminds of that of the drake in chicago

Aleks Apr 14, 2008 2:55 AM

Looks good. That red building next to the 2IFC looking building is a little too tall for it's thickness. Make it a little shorter or fatter.

If you're gonna have the tall tower then only make one shorter one. It won't look good making 3 towers the same style. But yes, make the dome on the shorter tower.

verticalextropy Apr 14, 2008 3:06 AM

i really like the shorter tower in its own merit (with its upcoming crown/dome)

but maybe the taller tower would look good in a different way as in the post in page 3. i'll see.
new sunrise render in 5 mins!
