Fairwinds Islands

Free market loving individuals and corporations from around the world funding a consortium are building for themselves a safehaven of finantial and medical freedom in the middle of the ocean: the emerging Archipelago-Nation of Fairwinds.
Major Banking, Software and Pharmaceutical firms are waiting for the infrastructure to be ready to relocate their HQ to Fairwinds.

So far the first permanent building is the Fairwinds Volco Hotel and Marina
which offers both hotel suites in the main building and office floors in the tower, equiped with secretarial, accounting and IT butling services.

As for today, all of the 350 resident citizens are staying and doing business at The Volco.

The hotel has a very professional and well thought out design. The story to the city is interesting.

verticalextropy Oct 9, 2007 7:41 PM

thanks, it is located on Mayflower Island, the first one to emerge.

And I'd like to change the fact that these wealthy individuals and corporations are not in search of finantial or medical freedom, they already have it, they actually pursue the idea of marketing individual freedom for a wide target of future residents.

This was the original town, now replaced

Nice. The new city is better and the hotel is well designed.
I suggest to
1. Soften edges.
2. Make a city grid.
3. if the city is going to be big don't make too much detail or it will slow you hellaaa...

Dac150 Oct 10, 2007 4:14 PM

Those buildings are fantastic!

verticalextropy Oct 11, 2007 12:52 AM

I've added three 35-story residential hi-rises.

And a skyscraper that don't know if it'll stay but this is how it adds to the skyline.

Aleks Oct 11, 2007 3:29 AM

The only road so far in need is the one connecting Mayflower Island with the dock, airstrip, power plant, and construction support temporary town. Pics soon.

Mocholate Oct 11, 2007 10:11 AM

Dac150 Oct 11, 2007 7:04 PM

The Fairwinds Times
Construction booms as Mayflower Island's land value skyrockets!

Dubbed the "Pearl of the North Atlantic" Mayflower Island is experiencing a construction boom. The Fairwinds Landfilling Consortium says nearly all land of this 500m by 350m island has been sold. While most of the investors want to remain in the shadows, two new buildings are completed and information has been released.

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/3796/57440402iz4.png

The "Radisson Plegaria" is a five story high-ceilings super luxury hotel and leading spa where lavish lodging and treatments are available at obscene prices. The building is an homage to the Portuguese baroque of nearby Madeira Islands.

On the other hand the "St. God's Medical Center", a 78-floors-skyscraper has been built by Swiss Medical Group in hopes of lodging their corporate offices, rehabilitation hotel, as well as the first medical clinic of the nation. At 292m with spire, it is currently the tallest structure in the man-made island.

verticalextropy Oct 12, 2007 11:52 PM

you're not confuhdded , I put it for just a shot, then took it out because the base was a tasteless joke.
The nice new tower is the "St God's" Hospital:

Dac150 Oct 12, 2007 11:52 PM

I'm not crazy about the Radisson being that it doesn't fit in well with the other buildings. Everything else though is very well done and incorporated.

verticalextropy Oct 12, 2007 11:56 PM

the radisson plegaria is my capriccio italien, it doesn't fit anywhere

I still don't know what to do about it, but the owner is a whimsical tycoon, very hard to deal with.

verticalextropy Oct 15, 2007 9:40 PM

Update!

The location of the city of Fairwinds is finally disclosed: Diego Garcia atoll, in the Chagos Islands (British Indian Ocean Territories).
http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...ego-garcia.htm

Until the Fairwinds Islands project began in 2007 Diego Garcia was home to a US Navy base and a Naval Computer and Telecommunication Station. So we have an idyllic tropical atoll 7 degrees south of the equator, with excellent bandwidth and US Navy protection - which I deem a lot more trustee than Nakheel Water Patrol. The Chagos Islands are the British Colony that's been colonised by the Americans (3200 military personnel and contractors).

Fairwinds Corporation plans for Phase 1 the completion of two two artificial islands in the lagoon connected through a highway bridge to the airport and dwarfing the population of the military base.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9451/12xh4.png

For now only Mayfair Island is to some point completed, while construction in Plymouth Rock has just began.

i'll be posting data on the new buildings, as well as softening the edges and estimating population. I'd appreciate feedback!

Dac150 Oct 15, 2007 10:26 PM

Honestly, the buildings are starting to get unrealistic. I think you should keep it a resort/hotel community, or atleast downsize those buildings.

Just my thoughts.

foxmtbr Oct 15, 2007 11:08 PM

^ That's what I think about Dubai. :haha:

Anywho, I think you're doing a great job, keep it up! Build whatever you want to build.

Aleks Oct 15, 2007 11:52 PM

I'm not a big fan of the new towers either. They do seem a little unrealistic for their height but if downsized, they could look great. Also it would be nice if the grass was all the same color.

verticalextropy Oct 16, 2007 1:18 AM

well, the new towers are trapped in my non-working laptop, so if by when I get it back I haven't make anything better, I'll keep them.

I'm now making it all over again, keeping just the first hotel and the three residential towers.
I began urbanizing the highway between the airport and the islands and nothing xtravagant so far.

Patrick Oct 16, 2007 4:00 AM

WOW so futuristic. I really really like the St. God's Medical Center, I guess I must agree with Dac, the new tall towers arent very realalistic, but honestly I like them, if this island takes place in the 2015's I can see this island being very "realaistic".

FREKI Oct 16, 2007 7:36 AM

Holy moly - I look away for a second and dang!

Great work mate - I hope you'll you have a nice condo ready for me come retirement age :D

Update!

Ok, I finally laid out the buildings i've been working on. I still need to work more on the street level, but what do you think of the new city:

I added a spire

this is main street
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/4...nstreetex2.png

aleks, those are hi density residential complexes, check out Hong Kong and you'll even 16 hi-rises packed together, and -i hope- without the feel of state housing.

Austin55 Oct 28, 2007 5:15 AM

you can turn of edges, you know. you like to draw lines eh?:haha:

were you talkin to me or aleks?

verticalextropy Oct 28, 2007 5:21 AM

was talking to ya:D
lines on sometimes shows better some buildings

suggestions? would like to see?

Very nicely done!

Mocholate Oct 28, 2007 10:06 PM

awesome

Patrick Oct 28, 2007 11:08 PM

Intresting :)

Aleks Oct 29, 2007 1:10 AM

Nice. The spires look good on the Pharus Hotel but I don't think those look like spires, more like antennas. It would be better as an office building.

FlyersFan118 Oct 29, 2007 2:21 AM

That reeks of Dubai-ness.

And you can take that as a compliment. :haha:

verticalextropy Nov 4, 2007 6:55 PM

4 more pics uploading rite now

So this is gonna be an very small hi density - asian city nation- model, but populated internationally, though initially by British and Americans since it's within British Indian Ocean Territories, and next to the biggest American Base in those longitudes.

Since its surrounded by an atoll and reed worth preserving, all construction will be disciplinedly constrained to small recclaimed islands around the deep water harbor in order to preserve entirely the bounty of the shallow lagoon next by.

Very interesting and original designs. Are you planning on making a crusie ship port?

verticalextropy Nov 4, 2007 7:10 PM

I've been working on a ship myself which will cruise the Indian Ocean, so hotels with cruiseship marinas will sprout naturally in Fairwinds.

On the other hand I am working on an international trade district with a lot of containers tarmac, docks, office towers and maybe a supertall
