I can't wait for next Friday's grand opening of Austin's Hotel 21c!
I'm gonna love taking pics next to the Penguins.... Hey guys, before the ceremony, I'll be taking light rail from the airport and stopping by for cocktails at Hotel Van Zandt.... Anyone else want to come? Hehehe |

A great photo of the skyline Thursday night as a cold front blew through Austin. They were also testing the spotlights in Zilker Park for ACL Fest this weekend.
That cold front was neat to watch. I was outside barbecuing last night when it came through. It was odd because the clouds weren't very wide or thick. I could still see the moon through the clouds even while it was lightning. It was basically in and out of here in like 20 minutes. Right after it passed it cleared up again, and I could see the moon perfectly even while there was still intense lightning off to the east. Also as it was rolling through, I did see them testing the spotlights in Zilker Park for ACL Fest. it was an odd sight last night. Today since the air was so crisp, you could really hear the music in Zilker Park even though it's 4 miles away. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...21015747_o.jpg https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater |
I kid N90.... I like the enthusiasm....

Anyone have any opinions on the Seaholm condos? Advantages, disadvantages? Are the finishes going to be any good? I have a family member looking to buy one.

Why can't Austinites just consolidate all highrise and urban infill projects in one thread like other cities on this forum? Why be so weird and different? |
The point of the individual building threads is to catch and post every snippet of info, updates and rumors about them. Not to mention so people can ask questions about leasing, amenities and materials. And of course so each building can be critiqued.
And there hasn't really been any bickering in the Austin sub-forum. |

As long as you stay out of the Transportation and Mueller threads there hasn't. |

I would like to see us post more on the main forum too, I know it's tidy to do the subforums, but it's nice to see everyone's photos and posts without looking for the subs
I'm just saying homies |
5th & Colorado - They've started prepping the site.

Great. Downtown desperately needs more office space.

I found this on the Austin Energy Control Center redevelopment.]
Rhode Partners is designing this - http://rhodepartners.com/ If you go to their website, under "news" they have this listed on their website back in May: Quote:

$140 million seems a bit on the cheap side for a 50-60 story building.
|
^Yeah, that does seem kind of slim for such a major project.

Lighting on The Bowie
I was driving to the airport this morning at 5PM and they we testing the lighting scheme on The Bowie. Holy crap. Did anyone else see it?
|
LIGHTING STUFF:
I saw the edge of the Bowie... It looked to be pretty interesting for sure.... I just hope it's not finished and that it will go all the way around the building and have the logo on the north facing side like the elevation. On a separate note.... Frost was dark for several days... Does anyone know anything about that? I suspect they were cleaning or changing the lights to LEDs or something... it's too bad they can't seem to hide the spot light in the middle of the crown. Does anyone else notice that? It looks good from the ground but from far away, it doesn't look the way I think they intended. Also, I noticed spring had a taller light atop an antenna for a few days, on a flag pole or something... last night they put it closer to the base again. Lighting is very interesting here... everyone loves to light their buildings up in Austin... I think it's neat. |

I think Dallas might be in a competition with Austin here in the near future to see which skyline lights up the best.
|
The Bowie's lighting could grow on me. Although, I really like 360's lighting, and The Bowie's is kind of upstaging it from the bridges/boardwalk or the parks along the river. It was really cool seeing it from I-35 looking through the canyon down 3rd Street.

Here's my latest list of Austin projects that are at least 100' and/or 10-stories tall:
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/...10-14Page1.png http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/...10-14Page2.png |
Good list. Right now I'm most looking forward to finding the heights for the UT System Headquarters and the Block 24 Condominiums. I actually think the Block 24 Condominiums have a good chance of becoming a new tallest for Austin.

I'd like to have the height for all of the medical center buildings as well and the Travis County DA building because I'm sure some of them would make the list. |
Yeah, I'm thinking that DA building will be tall enough. And I want all the heights for the medical center just because there's so many of them.
I still haven't had any luck with the Hotel Granduca or Capital Ridge (same development). https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...84799415_o.jpg Christopher Sherman Photography - https://www.facebook.com/cvsherman/p...type=3&theater |
The site plan for Capital Ridge shows plans for a second office tower, both of which could be 100'. But it doesn't have elevations or show the hotel. The site plan, by the way dates back to 2008.

Update from the Statesman. Fifth & West Residences - Demolition of existing structure(s) to commence soon.

This one reminds me of the W. I want it built badly.
Details from the article: 448 feet. 39 stories. 5th tallest. 500k starting price. 154 condo units. Demolition starts this month. No disclosure of funding, but it seems to be in place. |
|
That's good news. This one is going to be one of the nicer buildings I think. I guess they nixed the brown accents and replaced it with grey. Their site plan is still not approved and released yet, but that should happen soon.
|
I must say that it has been an awesome day for project updates and photos in the Austin sub-forum. The updates would be getting buried and missed if everything was posted in the compilation thread as some posters would like.

Nueces Condos
Hill Country, you left off Nueces Condominiums, a 100 unit building on a quarter acre at 906 Nueces.

EDIT: I just checked on that building and it's too short to make the list. |
According to editor over on HAIF, a tower around 40 stories is about to announce in Austin later this month on the 27th. Here is the link with a picture. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/h...er-for-austin/

Yet another building that has been scaled down to the 400' range in a prominent location.
|
Yeah, I'd say about 450 feet. The design is pretty snooze worthy also.
|
It reminds me of The W Hotel in Dallas.

This Congress Ave hotel proposal that seemed to die a slow lingering death a couple years ago appears to have some life left in it. A permit filing was made today to extend the previously approved site plan:

Well how about that. I had just moved that into the dead proposals sheet of my building height database today. I'll believe it when I see it. That was one I was really excited about seeing built.
Great pic, texdaniel. The Bowie looks good there. Fifth + West Residences is definitely going to show up there (behind Austin City Lofts). |
