The ATX Dec 8, 2012 6:35 PM

That Marriott crane base arrived on site ~9:30 AM Friday morning per the Webcam.

Syndic Dec 9, 2012 6:12 AM

Speaking of the JW Marriott, the website has some new renderings. Or, at least, some renderings that I hadn't seen before.

:previous: One little thing I'm going to miss is the view of this on the side of the buildging just to the north of the hotel:

I know it's not a great work, but I always thought it was cool piece of Austin's past. I guess that's the price of progress, though.

Hopefully a little crevice will be left there for us to see a piece of Austin's history.

Looks like a tight fit to squeeze through, plus there will be no direct sunlight to actually see the mural. Reminds me of all those tight highly dense areas you see in New York.

Glad to see it has street level retail. Good for the neighborhood.

3 Eleven Bowie has cleared all structures now and it looks like they're going to move the tree this week. That one is moving pretty quickly now it seems.

I saw that there was a crane base at the Marriot site. I believe I read they were going to have three cranes...looks like we'll have at least one up soon!

They aren't removing the tree at 311

They are most definitely moving the tree...maybe to a different location on the same site but it's moving. They have it all dug up, roots wrapped and ready to lift out of the hole.

Yeah, I was really surprised by Calloway House and really that whole area in general. It' becoming very dense and walkable and urban over there. Austin, as a whole, is seeing a lot of infill and it's really paying off. It's turning into a real gem of a city.

I also went to Mueller (I like to keep an eye on it) and saw that they're starting construction of the Austin Children's Museum and they've added a lot of new streets and houses since I've been there. It's really coming along nicely. That neighborhood is going to be a great place when it's finished. I just think if they want to keep it having a trendy feel they have to add more mixed-use retail.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, that is not a popular sentiment on this forum.

LoneStarMike Dec 11, 2012 12:45 AM

Great photos. I really like that little side street that runs between Gables Park Plaza 1 & 2. I was over there the other night and on the Gables Park Plaza 1 side, it was all retail and looked really nice. If the other side of the street has that much retail, that's going to be really nice little shopping street - especially with the Monarch looming at the north end of it.

JoninATX Dec 11, 2012 8:29 AM

Great update Syndic, I'm kind of skeptical on how The Callaway House will turn out, hoping it will come out better than the rendering. Also 311, Seaholm will change once again the western edge of the skyline... Can't wait!!!

migol24 Dec 11, 2012 8:50 AM

One thing that I am mostly excited about is bringing more pedestrian traffic on the western part of Downtown. I always thought it was odd how the Pedestrian bridge has a lot of people walking, and jogging through but once you get to W 2nd St its completely dead. I hope the Seaholm development will change that dramatically.

Also, will they ever do something with that patch of grass (park?) that's on the right to the bridge once you exit? It be cool if they converted that into a more welcoming park. Those little benches are cool but I feel a bit more can be done to make it more attractive.

And oh yeah, the Riverview Apartments look pretty freaking epic from that angle.

Whatever happened to the Villa Muse Studio?

Was it canceled or put on hold? I'm having a hard time finding any searches for it's updates.
