A white tower crane has been installed for the new affordable housing downtown.
http://www.dcarch.com/portfolio/on-the-boards/1/1-b.jpg Rendering of what the project will look like once completed. http://www.dcarch.com/#on-the-boards_1 |
I will snap a few pictures tomorrow. It actually caught my eye today, while I was walking down 5th st. happen to glance north in which I saw the crane peaking through several buildings.

416 Congress
Dick Clark and Associates have some concept art for the proposed hotel at 416 Congress. An interesting, very skinny (flat/shallow)building by the looks of it, but a nice height of about 26 floors.

I think 416 Congress was cancelled. Well, cut down to 9-floors.

The city continues to list that hotel as an emerging project for some reason even though it has been dead for over a year.

Austin Four Seasons Hotel plans major renovations in 2014
Jan BuchholzStaff Writer- Austin Business Journal
http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/bl...ans-major.html Found the last sentence interesting.... "The Fairmont Hotel Austin likely will break ground early in 2014." I guess a January ground breaking may not happen after all. Hopefully this gets built but I'm cautiously optimistic with each delay. |
It could also just be wording. January is technically early 2014. :D
|
January is early 2014...

Nice picture Syndic, hey I was wondering is there anyway we can raise the Frost Tower another 500ft?
|
Maybe an extra 500ft is pushing it but I think the structural support of the tower could support an extra 100- 200 ft.
|
So, we should get a bet going on what building will break ground next.

Fairmont is a go, right?

From Texas Monthly:
"If we're going to recklessly speculate, though, the odds are much better that the signage and the equipment are for the From Dusk Till Dawn TV series, which is currently filming in Austin, and which is directed and produced by Tarantino BFF Robert Rodriguez. Tarantino both wrote and starred in the original film, and the idea that Rodriguez is tossing in a Pulp Fiction reference as an easter egg for fans and to get some nerd-juices flowing seems pretty likely." http://www.texasmonthly.com/daily-po...stin-right-now |
The series will be on a new TV network launching next year called "El Rey." It's a joint venture between Rodriguez and Comcast, and it's target audience is
English speaking Latinos. From the source of all universal truths: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Rey_(network) |

Aspen Heights Apartments 22-story 200ft @ 8th & Nueces
http://austintowers.net/proposed-at-...ts-apartments/ |
The number of big projects being proposed and under construction is getting freaking ridiculous. But that's good.
|
Like I've said elsewhere, this is almost certainly connected to a chain student housing development:
http://www.myaspenheights.com/ |
Good thing is Aspen Heights usually does lowrise apartment complex-type stuff from what I've seen on their site, but we get a 200ft highrise.
|
Quote:
So... it could very well be a distinct non-student project by someone totally different, but I'm very much assuming that it is Aspen Heights, as they're a well known chain with a very unique name that I can't see anyone crimping off of. I imagine that they have the name trademarked, actually, so if it isn't them, you can expect a name change shortly. |

Something cool here. This is a student-housing concept by Humphreys & Partners. It's a 30-story high-rise w/ a 5-story mid-rise (& tons of amenities). Not sure of the exact location but you can see The Castilian and Guadalupe St. in the background.

Too bad that's only a concept. That'd be one of my favorite buildings in town. :/
|
It's at the northwest corner of 22nd and Rio Grande. It takes up the whole block, which would be impossible, as there is already a newly built project there in the southwest corner of the block...
|
Why they build that for students? That could be a very good luxury apartment. I just don't like the idea of a bunch of rich kids livin it up while everyone else has to work for there money. Although that place would be awesome if built in any form. Concept though.

I really like the austhetics of this project. Very well designed. |
Awesome design and height, but it wouldn't happen anyway since the height restrictions in that area are capped at about 250 feet. That building would likely be close to 350 feet.
The Castilian is only 205 feet. The Quarters Garage, the large parking garage to the left of the tower across the street in the rendering, that garage is 135 feet tall. So this tower would be at least 330 to 350 feet. Too bad it's only a concept. |
Just like cars, the concept versions are the best.

Fairmont
Any news on if this will break ground next month? We should know something by now right?
