While the idiocy of council remains. It has become a lot harder to demolish without a solid plan in place. There are also often fines for not constructing on a demolished property, though not high enough in my opinion.

Also, I believe that this project is almost fully sold out

The same developer also started construction on their other project in Mississauga quite quickly following its sales launch - so I suspect this is it actually starting. We have to wait and see if we get shoring rigs on site after demo is done, but I would be surprised if we don’t.

That changed when they forbade people from demolishing buildings to turn them into parking lots. Hence why the old robinsons lot is cinderblocked off and not a parking lot.

They're already starting demolition on this? How bloody awesome! Man, I really love this City of ours.

I feel sad I never got to go into this building

You'd probably feel sadder if you had. It was utterly unremarkable, and a bit of a maze. I went there a few times re: my Ticat tickets and to visit the team store when it was there.

I remember going there with my dad back when it was the Ticats' office too. It was just a bland, 90s/00s-looking office really

I remember when it was part of the Ministry of Labour. Don Drury, former councillor, used to work from there as a lawyer for the Ministry. There was nothing special about the building.

Pretty sure I beat y'all, having been in the place when it was Hamilton Squash Club or Racquetball Club .... quite a while back! Back in the days when we would hit up Rave Records for the used vinyl :)

This side street really did have a little bit of everything, eh?

According to the directories, there was still a sheet metal manufacturer here in the 60s. There used to be a lot of factories where the Int'l village is now, actually. They grew around the Ferguson Ave. tracks back when it was functionally a mainline.

I went once, to buy a jersey I think. It was so dead quiet in there it was kind of awkward, just the sound of you moving around and the cash person breathing. Needed some music or something.

Might need to change the thread title. Demolition's nearly finished, they're down to the foundation now. Should be starting construction by the summertime.

I'm really curious as to when this project and 75 James South actually break ground. Both have their demolitions basically complete. I'm hoping soon?

Previous building is all gone. Pictures from this afternoon:

made quick work of that building demo. Too much to ask to see excavators on site within the next month? or at least shoring equipment

TheRitsman May 17, 2021 6:00 PM

They're still digging downward and removing rubble.

I don't think they're excavating yet. The building permits on this site show the shoring and excavation permit hasn't been issued yet, it's under review still. You can check address permits I found out here: buildingpermits.hamilton.ca
