We don't get to see many aerials of Richmond. Thanks, Architype.

Yeah, Shanghai is some serious Blade Runner sh*t for real.

A few pictures from Ayreonaut's and my road trip today.

Plaisance, the former French capital of Newfoundland, taken from the ruins of a fortress that once guarded the town.

Probably the community most vulnerable to any rise in sea levels in the entire province.

Signal, those are landscape photos, not photos of urbanity, except for the one with the town. That's more appropriate for the "Showcase your province's varied landscapes" thread. Great photos though. Sorry to be a nag.

SignalHillHiker Sep 23, 2013 12:53 AM

Oh, it's NP. I can move the two with no town to that thread. :)

Chadillaccc Sep 23, 2013 12:55 AM

Thanks! The non-urban threads need some lovin too mister! lmao!

So is Richmond built on a flood plain then?

Chadillaccc Sep 23, 2013 11:22 PM

It is basically Canada's most vulnerable city to both sea level rise and earthquake liquefaction.

There is a cycle path parallel to the walking path. It is either 12 or 14 kms around the reservoir depending on whether one takes the causeway or goes across the dam.

Flooding yes, but the liquefaction issue is highly overblown. The bedrock/glacial till is not far down in Richmond so the buildings are all well secured. This is Canada after all, they do have to abide by the same safety/engineering restrictions everyone else does.

I can't speak to the SFHs though, no idea what their risk level is.

Chadillaccc Sep 24, 2013 1:38 PM

The buildings are well secured, of course. Liquefaction doesn't only affect buildings though... in Christchurch, half their roads were covered and many of their sewers floated nearly to the surface, among many other disastrous affects of liquefaction.
