Yeah, same project it just looks like they're a little further along in the design. It seems they may have expanded it a bit from the last conceptual renderings, I liked the old design but I think I like this new one better. Nice find on the renderings.

That last rendering looks like it's at the corner of Shaw and Harrison across from the Breslin.

A couple of projects working there way through various approvals...

Stadium North is a residential project slated for the Chief Cart property in between Cedar & Larch and south of Erie St just a bit north from the Lugnuts' stadium and Gillespie's associated developments. If will contain two four floor buildings with 66 units each, one for seniors and one regular multi family.

1506 N Grand River is a long vacant industrial building next to the Grand River near Old Town. Here they are in the early stages of approval for a 10 floor 168 unit building with integrated parking and just over 17k sq ft of ground floor commercial space. This is a biggie if it happens, it could really shift the course of Old Town's future. (Thanks to MichMatters for digging this up early in the process and posting it on Develop.MetroLansing)

In other development news around the area two long vacant schools are slated to be renovated soon: the old Walter French at Mt Hope & Cedar along with the old West Junior at 500 W Lenawee will both be converted into apartments and are at various stages of approval. There are also two more run-of-the-mill 4 floor hotels currently under construction in the Lake Lansing/127 area on Wood Rd and West Rd respectively. And something I'm very much looking forward to: A major trail project to connect the eastern end of the Rivertrail at Hagadorn to Lake Lansing Park North and to Haslett & Green Rd should see its first phase go out for bid this month with funding already secured for its entirety. This will add almost 5 miles of new trail and connect another 4+ miles of existing trail extending the contiguous trail system to the far northeast edge of Haslett/Okemos and accessing two county parks (Lake Lansing North & South) along with one of Meridian Twp's largest and most developed parks along with a township owned natural area. This is thanks to Ingham County's still relatively new dedicated trails millage which should see our trail system vastly increase in size over the coming years.

There was a special meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals on August 23 to review this 10-story, 135-ft. proposal for 1506 N. Grand River Ave., on the site of a currently vacant industrial building. Due to its proposed location, variances are required for the building height and number of stories. Under the new, form-based code, the current limits are 60 ft. / 6 stories. No published minutes from that meeting yet, so no word on if it was accepted -

A development that would bring 500 apartments to the site of Dublin Square Irish Pub has been proposed for Downtown East Lansing.

500 apartments, new high-rise buildings proposed in downtown East Lansing

Quote:

Owner, operator and multifamily housing developer The Michaels Organization officials spoke on the project at an East Lansing Downtown Development meeting Thursday that would raze the pub. The proposal includes 201 student apartments, 209 other apartments and 93 "essential" or affordable housing units in three separate buildings of 12-, seven- and four-stories, respectively.

However, Dublin Square fans can rest assured as the proposed plans include putting the popular pub back into the proposed 12-story building for that site.

“Dublin Square will always be Dublin Square," pub property owner and real estate developer Paul Vlahakis said Thursday.

If the plan comes to fruition, a four-story affordable housing building would be developed at the corner of Valley Court and Evergreen Avenue. A 604-space parking garage would be developed northwest of that building and a seven-story student housing building would be built to the east, according to the site plan.

132 new apartments proposed for Lansing’s Stadium District
https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2...pjpg&auto=webp
Quote:

Plans are underway for an estimated $33 million development project that could bring more than 130 apartments to the city’s Stadium District.

Pivotal, an Ohio-based developer that’s been developing affordable housing since 1993, plans to build two apartment buildings with 66 units each for multi-family and seniors on about 3 acres at 500 N. Cedar St., Lansing Economic Development Corp. Vice President Kris Klein said in an email.

Pivotal, formerly known as MVAH Partners before an August rebranding, is calling the development Stadium North Lofts and Stadium North Senior Lofts.

“The Stadium North Lofts/Senior Lofts will further redevelopment efforts and create a greater mix of housing options for residents looking to reside in the district and have access to downtown amenities,” Klein said.

Excellent photos deja vu! MSU announced today that they will be building a multicultural center on campus. It should be complete by fall 2024.

MSU to build $38 million multicultural center on East Lansing campus
https://s3-prod.crainsdetroit.com/s3...201-Main_i.jpg
Quote:

The MSU Board of Trustees authorized construction of the 34,000-square-foot center on Friday.

The new, freestanding center symbolizes MSU's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by establishing a safe space that enables a stronger sense of belonging for students of historically underrepresented groups, the university said.

The MSU Multicultural Center will include:
  • An outdoor amphitheater
  • A "Dreamer Center" to help undocumented students succeed academically and professionally
  • Offices for the Council of Racial and Ethnic Students and the Council of Progressive Students Council
  • Prayer rooms, a resource center, art gallery wall and spaces for collaboration.
Students and community stakeholders provided input that informed the design process through community engagement meetings facilitated by SmithGroup, the project's designer.

The project is expected to be completed by fall 2024.

A few updates...

There's a proposal for a 5 floor 65 unit affordable apartment building on S Grand Ave across from the CATA transit station, this would be built by the Lansing Housing Commission. In the article there's also mention of a new building on the adjacent half-block parking lot containing offices for CATA on the first floor with apartments of some sort of above along with possible homeless services.

There's another 5 floor 120 unit affordable apartment building proposed for downtown East Lansing on the city lot at Albert & Bailey.

It appears the renovation of the old Walter French School is close to beginning, construction fencing was put up around the property this week. This is one of the largest vacant buildings in the city and will be one of the largest adaptive reuse projects the area has seen. Random old pic of the school pulled from Flickr below:
