Taking forever

I can't believe how long of a build this has been...we're into 2+ years? ...and it's finally above ground! 6 X Guadalupe is going to be finished way before this building.

I think it's only been a year or so.

Construction started February 2019, so a little over a year ago.

Site prep at the new Google Building began in January 2019, so about 1 year and 4 months ago. I think it will be quite far along by 2 years which is next January. It will probably be around the 15th floor if the new Indeed Building is any indication.

In April 2019, the Indeed Building was approximately at the same status as the new Google building is now. It has been a little over a year since then and that building is at about 20-25 floors.

This project dug down about 60 feet or so, and digging is notoriously time consuming. This project also had the unique situation of having a river border it on one side and a creek on another which introduced unique challenges to water seeping in. Because of two bodies of water, it wasn't a simple process of digging a hole and setting rebar and pouring concrete. They drilled down and poured the concrete walls first, and then dug out the dirt before pouring what would be the "bottom slab" of the building. This is really one of the most unique projects so far, and not just because of the design either.

That view from Cesar Chavez will be looking a lot better a few years from now. I can't wait until that massive curtain-wall glass wall facing West is done

My favorite project

I would to see this from different views!

Gotta give props to you guys, Austin has such an exciting skyline and you should be very proud of it if you aren't already

Interesting to see how Parsley fits in to the skyline in that last pic. It’s not a particularly remarkable building, but it does extend the plateau further along. Strategic infill, maybe?

EDIT: the way that particular view has shaped up, Northshore’s stair-step lines really function as a pivot point for the whole thing. It’s much more prominent than I thought it would be. Pretty cool, TBH.

It's just too bad the Frost Bank Tower's crown doesn't poke up there somewhere about level with Northshore and The Austonian's roof. It's kinda sad, really. 360 gets to poke up there, but not Frost.

Agreed. As always, Frost needs 10 more floors.

I've often dreamed that since the entire current crown of Frost is just steel and glass, and no actual floorplates... they could disconnect it, remove it, add a 40-80ft steel and glass cage, and put it back.. and give it the proportion it always deserved. It would essentially be just a (significantly) taller crown. Other buildings have ridiculously tall non-occupied crowns.

No financial benefit means it would never happen, but I like to just imagine it is possible.

You're right, and it makes it all the more obvious that those parking lots at 3rd and Congress need to be developed with something at least that tall.
