Yeah, I'm sad to hear they're moving....There is a big part of me that gets sad when these old local businesses move or get kicked out of DT. I know I've said this before, but retail is really slimming down to JUST bar/restaurant/grocery stores.

It sucks, because when I was reviewing building plans with the city, I overheard several times that they rely on Miller Printing a lot and were recommending them to people who wanted to scan, print, laminate or frame their plans. I'm sure they do a TON of business in downtown by printing many of the building blueprints/plans of projects all over Austin. The guy who was helping me at the city said the city has a warehouse where they store all the development plans, and that they had 7,000 boxes of plans. Every single project in Austin that gets approved, even if it doesn't get built, has its plans stored there.

Yeah...that's Larry. He's tons of fun..... but I think he was just waving that guess around.... told the me same thing but in a " I bet we'll see..... " kinda way that told me he really didn't know. It's why I asked a woman in the back that's been there a long time. I'm sure we'll see soon!

They arn't moving that far away. Just the other side of 35 a few blocks north
But I was sad as well. It is another loss of a personal local service business that tons of people use. I really don't blame them for moving and taking better financial advantage of the property. They don't need that space. Upstairs was filled with technology that is out dated and unused. The scope of the buisness has changes due to technology.

As for the litte old Bank building that is on the property. They ruined it when they sheered off the historical front. So it really has no value any more.

Hotel Van Zandt & The Westin has made great infillers to the Austin skyline at the intersection of 35 & E. Riverside Dr. It won’t be long until Millineum Rainey makes it's appearance on the skyline as well. :)

Until recently, the City required around 27 sets of full plans--this was very good for Miller. Council just passed the electronic plan review process which brings that number down to one. Much more sustainable and twenty-first century

By the way, where have you been 427MM, you used to post all the time, now it's once in a blue moon.

Apparently the RoI Consulate is opening by the end of the month, but I haven't been able to find out where other than "downtown"

Anyone know?

OMG. How many years has it been since we last heard anything about Waterloo Park Tower? A site plan was filed yesterday. But there are no details other than it being mixed used with hotel:

What address is the property?

The ATX Oct 14, 2014 3:03 PM

I see we have an old thread for this building with the last update from over two years ago when it was suggested that this would be a 20 to 40-story building:

This project is years older than 2012. 2012 was just the last resurrection.

The project you don't know the name of is the Cirrus Logic research building. It should be completed by the end of the year.

JoninATX Oct 15, 2014 7:00 AM

As well as the new PTA building (Skinny 5 story building).

KevinFromTexas Oct 15, 2014 11:21 AM

I moved all the Hyatt House posts and created a thread for the building here:

Well, I guess the original vision for The Waterfront was too ambitious.
