I know, right?

Though I wonder if some of them are only defending it because I am saying it should go.

I would never advocate for something of that nature to be built in River North now. And I'm a relentless agitator for less parking and more density. So I don't know what it is, but I get happy when I walk by The Ohio House and I like looking at it. It's similar to the feeling I get in East Lakeview when I walk by a giant mansion with a yard or church Rectory with wrought iron fencing around a low-slung mini gothic complex. Or a pocket park full of people eating lunch.

Ohio House doesn't belong where it is. It's not the kind of development that I'd like to see built anywhere, even in an exurban environment. I'd be sorry to see it go.

What's the Willis Tower?

^ I've never heard of her either.

Nearly got in a fight with my 6 and 8 year old nephews over Christmas on the subject. It's a losing battle with today's brainwashed kids, but I'll never give up.

It's literally the name of the building.

I know what you mean, this is just the same Buzzfeed stuff I've seen Brittanys from Schaumburg post on social media for years and it's just old.

It's still a hot dog if there's ketchup on it. It's OK.

Off topic - I dont think the Vista thread should be a place for a debate on why honoring a failed retailer is seen as such a bulwark of Chicago architecture fans.

Its the WILLIS Tower - Sears is dead and should remain so.

They left for Hoffman Estates years ago they should be gone from your lexicon as well...

I just hope it's renamed to United Tower when the naming rights are up for grabs. They're now leasing the most space in the building, correct?

Yes, but several developers are courting them to anchor new projects. Wolf Point South would have been awesome for United - local juggernaut company, prominent location - but Salesforce has it now, and United was probably never gonna pay tech company rents anyway. We may yet see them move their HQ lock, stock, and barrel to The 78, Lincoln Yards or River District, or possibly just across the river to the Post Office where they could eat up 1/3 of the space.

Ouch, that would definitely be a cringer.....

“The New York Life building? Oh yeah, just a couple of blocks east of that you can catch a Broadway in Chicago show, or head over to the Macy’s at State St...”

But if they go for Barad-dûr they could put an awesome fiery eye at the top between the antennas.

I checked Aster Hall out tonight at 900 N Michigan. It blows the shit out of all the other food halls downtown AND it's open to 8 (except on Sundays). It's got a great lounge area to sit or work too.
