Nice find with that. Those computer generated models are really well done. I love the view of Northshore from this. Very impressive.
If that is an actual rendering, it'll be a nice looking building. BUT it's only about 20-stories, and that would be a huge disappointment IMO.
The model seems to suggest it's around 375 feet, but who knows. They made 500 West 2nd appear taller than Northshore there, even though it isn't really.
I don't think it's an actual rendering. The more I look at it, the more it looks like a template of Austin Proper. Look at the general shape and the windows specifically. I think they took the Proper, flipped the orientation, changed the White section to gray, chopped off 10 floors, and called it a day. Cool building but definitely a placeholder IMO. Probably explains why it's only 20 stories.

This may or may not be related to this project. But a permit was filed today to remove the large tree on the site along Cesar Chavez:

Seems to me that you could keep that fantastic tree. |
The "project sponsor" on the permit is listed as the Austin Transportation Department. So a bus stop? Or maybe it will interfere with a future intersection at that location?
It is a nice looking tree - at least from this angle. It has a nicely shaped canopy. |
No kidding. I don't have time to look into it, but is the permit here a sure thing or a request for a permit?
I'm betting they will move the tree to another location. I doubt they'll destroy it. They moved a HUGE oak tree on Main Street in Buda at the site of their new municipal complex. They moved it about 500 feet across the site.
Drove past on my way in this morning. it is indeed a large, impressive tree. They're going to have resistance to this, IMO, unless they already have another home for it.
The tree is being moved about 150 feet to the bank of Shoal Creek.
I'm one of those slightly tree-obsessed people and I'm okay with this as long as they're just moving it.
^^ I wouldn't call myself obsessed by any means, but I definitely value them and appreciate mature trees in the downtown area. I'm glad it's staying nearby.
I think the guy who runs Franklin's has dibs on it.

The tree removal plans were approved today. A drawing in the attachment shows that the tree is being relocated to the next block:

I would think that we might see some sort of site plan soon. If they already know where they're putting the tree on the site, they probably have mapped out a footprint for the building too. |
