Thank you for some clarity.

That's a sweet rendering of L. One of the most exciting projects rising in the city right now. This and One Bloor will keep things interesting on Yonge Street for years to come.

Its not a render, its a photo of the building model from the sale center, photo shopped into a picture of the skyline. Still very well done of course.

Surprise to see lil ol Winnipeg on here? I certainly am :)

photo credit goes to Authentic City I believe? My apologies if mistaken. I know the one and only trueviking inserted these additional buildings in.

They are, from L -> R:

- alt hotel/mixed use office depending on the angle, it will fill in some gaps in the skyline very nicely

- Canadian museum for human rights interestingly enough, this building is actually 4m taller than the MTS building (the short one between the 3 tallest to the left side of pic) and also taller than the alt hotel mentioned above, but because of its location & lower elevation related to where this pic was taken, viking tried to fit it in appropriately

- Convention centre expansion hotel this is killing a big parking lot downtown (well the expansion is; the hotel will be build on top of it), hopefully the first of many more in the Peg

- There are a few more buildings going up downtown, one that is in early planning, and another than is greenlit (25 storey apt tower, ~ as tall as the Green topped building) in addition to a few in Osbourne village but those are out of the scope of this picture (they will be to the right)

I know its no Toronto (heck even no Missusauga) but its the most action we've seen in the Peg for a long time, with more momentum gaining each year

trueviking Jul 28, 2011 4:10 AM

^ the convention centre hotel will actually most likely kill a second parking lot.....either the one on graham beside MTS or the one south east of the convention centre.

The building furthest back in the picture I believe some construction has started, the building that was there has been demolished. There was a public meeting on the Fortis building last night and one city councilor said he expects construction to begin this construction season. Things have been fairly quiet on the other two proposals and I have my doubts if both get approved.

I'd marked 90 Harbour and it's sister property - 120 Harbour - across York in yellow, as part of BuildToronto. The Harbour Commission is outlined in pink - hopefully awaiting lovely rejuvenation someday.

CN at UT has pointed out the lots available for redevelopment on the Toronto Waterfront.

One of the yellow coloured lot was purchased recently by Menkes for $76,000,000. So this will likely be a 65 or 70 storey tower.

Can't wait to see what they have in store for us

Wow, look at St John's stepping it up!! Id say it is competing with regina and saskatoon now......well......hard to tell from that, but whatever.....

Traynor Aug 3, 2011 7:36 PM

Those Google SketchUp renders by Canadian National are fun for seeing all the future development, but viewers should be warned about the notorious height accuracy issues with SketchUp.

For some reason, no matter how accurately a person renders the height of the model they designed, when posted in to SketchUp, the program distorts the heights and often averages them close to other buildings nearby.

For example: In the above series of renders, the Delta hotel is projected to be 159.8 meters tall, 15 York is to be 157 and ICE I will be 202 meters, yet they all look the same height.

Re: St. John's - the other two proposals were just announced recently, and are early on in the development process. They have requested that land use assesments be done (wondering if this is a practice in any other canadian cities), and not much else happens until that stage. Personally I don't see any good reason for them to not be approved, but even that is not a guarantee of them proceeding either. Another condo/parking development in the central area was approved recently too, also a 7 fl hotel and 9 level condo-hotel have also been approved in the central & east end but seem to be stalled.

Haha yeah, I think I might do that this evening. But it won't be a supertall. Winnipeg, at this point, just like Vancouver, couldn't handle a supertall. It would overwhelm either skyline.

I'm thinking, for Winnipeg, a 150+ meter tower would be great, to make it iconic and finally establish the central focus of the skyline. The current skyline is of course focused on Main and Portage but it also has to compete with Portage, Osborne and the area around Fort Garry Hotel.

Once there's a 150 meter, then we can go up to 200, and then so on. Just like Vancouver has done.
