Absolutely LOVE these updates bobbywest87! I'm sure we all always wonder how much more these buildings will go until they top off. Next update of this is I'm guessing before Christmas? I'm sure construction will slow down with everyone taking a holiday break + some rainy days

Really looking forward to Waterline shooting up from now on!

Thanks, Gillynova. I rely a ton on your picture updates to get these progress estimates right. I figure the next update will probably be week of 12/18 or around there which is another 8 weeks. Maybe sooner if they top out 700 River before then. Otherwise, it seems like a good frequency to demonstrate progress.

Redevelopment partner wanted to help transform downtown's First Baptist of Austin church

Quote:

A downtown Austin ministry wants to redevelop the 1.7-acre site its church stands on to better serve the public, and it's looking for a partner to help bring its vision to life.

First Baptist Church of Austin, located on a full block at 901 Trinity St., is seeking a partner to redevelop the property not just as a place of worship but also one that will meet downtown’s needs for affordable space for child care, arts venues and public gatherings, according to an Oct. 18 announcement.

This is kind of a bizarre brief. It's a church that essentially wants to shrink its footprint -- but not abandon it completely -- while finding a partner to develop a portion of its land for limited-profitability ventures. All while under a CVC. Very interested to see who will take them up on this.

EDIT: Towers has a nice write up, and fleshes the idea out a lot more completely than the ABJ. I'm officially 20% less skeptical than I was.

It seems to have many of the same challenges as the nearby block that Cielo attempted to develop.

Are there any updated plans/schematics of what they're doing at the MACC? I just tried looking briefly but couldn't discern which was the latest version.

Also, this Jan., 2022 DC presentation is the original source for most MACC expansion info:

Really happy to see this moving forward. The MACC has always felt a little small and unfinished to me, and this definitely completes things in a big way.

I not sure. I like the design of the MACC, but I'm not sure this renovation/addition will look as good by comparison. Even the towers article seems unsure about whether the new wings of the building will actually be green, which could look good, but I guess we'll have to wait and see when it finally opens up.

Either way, hopefully this sort of addition will help them expand the type of things they do there, rather than just "a once a month space for Mexico-related events" and a place for Rainey residents to walk their dogs.

They restarted construction at W. 15th and San Antonio on this 5-story office building that Towers did an article on. It's that building that will supposedly have an art gallery on the first floor: https://austin.towers.net/hey-austin...lyn@towers.net

Sorry for the low quality pic. Took it from the car.

Wish UNO included this neighborhood. Height limits are much too low.

They have a sign with the rendering of the MACC along the trail and what that shows is the new additions will match the original building so they will be white.

Very strange design. Look at where the bathrooms are. It's definitely not a place I would rent.

I find it a bit odd that Texas A&M was the one who approved this and not the state government as it is a state government agency... I guess since A&M tends to be the one who gets involved with Natural disasters in that sense, I can understand however it just seems strange reading that.

Texas A&M is a State (public) entity. Currently, the SEOC is managed by a division of TAMU.

Council approves $15M purchase of the Salvation Army shelter property

Quote:

The former Salvation Army Downtown Shelter will continue to serve people without homes for years to come, following City Council’s decision to purchase the property for $15 million. The purchase includes the 130-bed shelter on Eighth Street and a retail storefront and parking lot on the 700 block of Red River Street.

The purchase removes the long-uncertain future of the building, which was closed unexpectedly by the Salvation Army early this year. That closure caused a sudden disruption in the number of shelter beds available for women, transgender people and those with disabilities who are served there.

The city stepped in to keep it open through early spring, and City Council in June approved a 12-month lease that allowed time to negotiate the purchase, which was unanimously approved on consent.
