Beetham have submitted their 175m London tower for approval. If this gets approval, It should start straight away. It could start late next year.
From Beetham "Planning has been submitted to Southwark Council for a 52-storey glass tower that will combine 64 super luxury residences, a 261 bedroom super luxury hotel operated by Jumeirah, together with a public viewing gallery at the top of the building. News of another skyscraper for the City.
This is planned for the Bishopsgate Goods Yard site, and is going into planning later this year. If built, it will stand opposite the Broadgate Tower (165m) and the Northgate Tower (180m, also in planning). Based on this early model, it looks at least 200m - http://i3.tinypic.com/2jacly8.jpg |
If you include EVERYTHING currently planned for London - even those towers in pre-planning - then it looks like this...

Olympic masterplan unveiled 6 February, 2007 By Vikki Miller The Olympic Delivery Authority submits a 10,000 page planning application for the Olympic Park The transformation of east London began today with the submission of a 10,000 page planning application for the Olympic Park for the 2012 games. The 15-volume document outlining the Olympic Park masterplan, drawn up by an EDAW-led team including Allies & Morrison, HOK Sport, Foreign Office Architects and Buro Happold, is thought to be one of the biggest planning applications in European history. It lays out the ODA’s proposals for 246 hectares including sports venues, infrastructure, utilities and open spaces. The new plans show the changes to the original Olympic Park proposal in the bid. These include: relocating the international broadcast centre and main press centre to within the park boundary and a scaled back layout of venues and park facilities. The planning application is made up of two elements: one for site preparation and the other for construction of the Olympic Park and the legacy for east London. The site preparation document includes: * Remediation, demolition and earthworks to prepare the land for construction * Extensive works to waterways, including the construction of new river walls and flood defence walls The Olympic and legacy application includes: * The construction of 5 permanent venues (Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Velopark, Handball Arena, Eton Manor) and 3 temporary sporting venues (Basketball Arena, Hockey Venue, Fencing Venue) * The construction of an International Broadcast Centre / Main Press Centre * 11 permanent highway bridges and 13 permanent footbridges * Above ground utilities, including: A wind turbine which will provide 6% of the Olympic Site’s energy requirements and in legacy will provide energy for the local community David Higgins, chief executive of the ODA, said it was time to move to the next stage of the project. He said: “We are ‘locking-in legacy’ at a very early stage – five and a half years before the Games begin – and we now move from the planning phase to the next stage of the Olympic Park project – what we are calling ‘Making the Park 3D – Demolition, Dig and Design’ which will take us to Beijing.” The planning application will be assessed by the ODA’s planning committee. A decision is expected later this year. The application also outlines a commitment to prepare a separate document, a legacy masterplan framework, which will focus on post-Olympic delivery or residential, commercial. http://www.building.co.uk/Pictures/w...2007_mnti3.jpg http://www.building.co.uk/Pictures/w..._2007_mn_2.jpg http://www.building.co.uk/Pictures/w...k_2007_mn4.jpg http://www.building.co.uk/Pictures/w..._2007_mn_1.jpg http://www.building.co.uk/Pictures/w...k_2007_ti5.jpg |

bit of news:
- Ballymore has confirmed construction start on its Arrowhead Quay scheme in Canary Wharf. - In the City, Land Securities has indicated 20 Fenchurch Street will not be completed before 2012 at the earliest (if planning permission is granted). They will seek development partner or significant prelet before starting construction. Instead they will build the mixed-use scheme at One New Change without any development partner after Beacon left the joint venture last year. - British Land has appointed Bovis Lend Lease to build its Leadenhall tower in the heart of the City. |

Lots of news in London at the mo: GPE will start in Jan. 2009 its stunning tower scheme at Blackfriars Road with delivery planned in April 2011. As indicated above this coincides with BL starting construction on a new tower at 4 Broadgate early in 2009. GPE also plans in the medium term a new tower at Thomas Street, next to the proposed Shard of Glass.

Have to say Arrowhead Quay is deathly dull. They submitted a few ideas for cladding & appear to have gone for the dullest- yyyyyyyyyyawn.

Good news re. the residential development at 22 Marsh Wall / Canary Wharf.
Young Property Portfolio manager has purchased the freehold of the 45-storey East Tower, also to be known as "The Landmark" for £400 million. The acquisition comes 6 months after the firm purchased the 31-storeys West Tower. The 45-storeys tower will be marketed to both private and institutional investors. The development will be built by Chalegrove Properties. Completion is due in 2010. Other news: Qatar and Dubai investors and Gulf-based funds who bought the forthcoming 288m Pinnacle and 202m Heron Tower in the City have teamed up to create a new vehicle looking at investing oil-money into other development opportunities in Central London. |
This is something I've been working on for the last few days, and which hopefully illustrates the sheer scale
of transformation occuring across London. The pano itself was taken from a block of flats in Forest Hill. It was publicly accessible and I was able to reach the 7th floor. Every cluster can be seen here - from Battersea to Lambeth, Westminster, Elephant & Castle, Southwark, The City, right the way through to Greenwich, Canary Wharf and the Docklands. I used Google Earth to get some of the heights and locations accurate. There are probably some midrises and smaller towers I've left off, but the important ones are all there. More than 50% of what you see here either has planning permission, or is undergoing demolition/construction work. To be honest, it's more like 2015 than 2012... I've included things like the Broadgate Centre expansion, Bishopsgate Goodsyard, Heron Quays West, Vauxhall Bondway, etc. which are longer term developments. Anyway, this is the largest rendering I've ever done. Hope you like it. :) Here's a "before and after" - 2007 http://www.willfox.com/images/foresthillpano.jpg 2012 http://www.willfox.com/images/london2012.jpg |
