A couple sites from Ottawa from my trip in October.
I think this one is 412 Sparks. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...019_172251.png 400 Albert I & II https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...019_114614.png https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...019_114703.png pics by me. |
Posted these in the great hostpital thread but thought it might be of interest here as well.
Construction site of the massive, $2.2B expansion of the Enfant-Jésus hospital in Quebec City. Interestingly, this new hospital will mainly be heated/air-conditioned by water vapor. The city's incinerator is located about 2km away from the hospital and a few years ago, in anticipation of the construction, huge pipes were installed between the two complexes so that water vapor produced at the incinerator will be directed to a power plant installed at the hospital. It will cut greenhouse emissions by an estimated 95%. https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...6-2023_(2).jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...6-2023_(1).jpg Par Gabriel Picard — Travail personnel, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=133572718 The old hospital will be integrated into the new complex. In the following renders, you can see how the architects tried to somehow aesthetically merge the new construction with the old one. https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...2000/NCH_8.jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...2000/NCH_4.jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...2000/NCH_5.jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...2000/NCH_6.jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...2000/NCH_7.jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...plantation.jpg https://www.dmgarch.com/nch |
Booming Church Street.
Below, 8 towers rising east of Yonge, on/near Church Street. Nearly 1,000 metres of new height for the mostly* low/mid-rise street until a half dozen years ago. Still to come, a new tallest called QueenChurch (underway soon) @ 186 metres. In the pipeline is 119 Church just shy of 200 metres, 18 Dalhousie @ 175 metres and Centricity @ 171 metres. *The first tower to be built on Church Street was Sp!re @ 147 metres, completed in 2007. There are new, more detailed renderings for the tower that's half built at King's Wharf in Dartmouth. This one is to be called the Kevel (typo? :)).
It has an interesting lowrise shop component. I wonder if it'll turn out like this. The new tower is the tallest one in the first rendering. The ones in behind are already completed and the one in front is a future phase. I wish they had better plans to integrate this development with the adjacent blocks, but there is a rail line that divides them a bit. Quote:

It is not done yet but there are some photos of a 3 storey wooden heritage building being relocated for a development in Halifax: https://www.facebook.com/rushtonconstruction
https://i.imgur.com/og5zJUSh.jpg Source This will be interesting to watch. A few years ago I think this building might have just been torn down. Aside from preserving the buildings many of these relocations bring the streetscapes up a notch by reducing setbacks. There is another similar apartment building that's not getting saved near Robie Street (facing Balcom Square): https://i.imgur.com/ufuvqI6.png Source A building permit is about to be issued for twin ~30 storey towers on this site (Spring Garden West). |
I went on a walk through Downtown Toronto two days ago on the way to the Distiller District. This sums up the projects I covered.

I'm usually not a fan of distance updates like this, but it shows scale when considering these 3 buildings (all about 35 to 40 floors) are nearly topped out and near each other in an already dense part of town.
Two of these buildings are condo towers, and one is rental https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4b721dac_b.jpgA Busy Saturday by Draulerin Photographics, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0f86f141_b.jpgA Busy Saturday by Draulerin Photographics, on Flickr |

Whilst walking in northern Mississauga, I noticed a set of million dollar townhomes are to be built on Brittania, near Heartland.
It's a fairly central area, so it's disappointing to see such a low density project going here, but I also know its the only realistic thing to build here. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...43f1ea5d_b.jpgThe Walk North by Draulerin Photographics, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...169512a7_b.jpgThe Walk North by Draulerin Photographics, on Flickr EDIT: So this site, further north, and in an existing subdivision, is going to also consist of ground floor condos and townhouses, but only 19 altogether This is taken from the back of the property, which backs onto a public trail https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...136a3549_b.jpgThe Walk North by Draulerin Photographics, on Flickr |

2444 Yonge (rental project of two towers) continues to work through excavation, although I took these before the snow started so the site may take a little time as winter finally comes to the area.
