Are you implying that walking down Main Street doesn't invoke the feeling of being in Manhattan?

I think he's implying that we shouldn't have to name ourselves off "successful" areas of america in order to appear relevant and up and coming.. feels a bit pretentious. We should be focusing on our own city areas.

Esp. when literally NOTHING about this building screams manhatten, and more "80s hamilton style with a glass building plopped on top"

Or maybe it's called the Mainhattan?

That rings a very distant bell in my brain...

The Mainhattan is a building in Dundas.

^Ah yes, there it is - a very distant memory.

This is what they want to use, only orange.

I was up on the mountain today and there is the nicest Taco Bell I have ever seen at James and Fennel that uses this OKO skin(or something similar)

I guess the Manhattan is trying to match the brick colour of the building across the road maybe? I know black and grey are pretty popular at the moment but if you are going to put a mediocre building up using those colours do tend to make it seem a little nicer than it really is.

Bets one way or the other on whether this will ever actually happen?

TheRitsman May 11, 2019 8:32 PM

0%

Maybe once LRT has shovels in the ground.

0%, Manhattan West gave up and sold the property.

The lot is too shallow and next to a single family residential house making it impossible to respect setbacks and angular planes requirements, as it should be.

The lot has been sold to Belmont Equity Partners. Based on their website it appears that most of their projects are commercial buildings.

Source is the Land Registry Office. The sale closed on Jun 27, 2019.

Thanks for the updates. This thread title then ought to be changed to cancelled.

It should be changed back to proposed. The application is still in the works, it was updated to reflect the ownership under Belmont Equity Partners. I heard they're planning a upscale hotel. Here's a photo I took in August of the new sign on site.

Thank god. Something other than what was proposed.

This is one of those lots I am most excited to see fill up with something. The lots right off the highway, and with access to Locked St within walking distance will make the area fill in with people. Main really needs to go to two-way traffic though. It currently kills any type of walkability of the street on top of the paper thin sidewalks.

They could just be testing for soil contamination. It was a gas station previously.

I'd say 99% sure that's it. Soil remediation would be required. Have to assume the underground tanks were removed years ago, but leaching into the soil is a cioncern.
