So, I was looking around on the Planning Commission website and I found this schematic of Shoal Creek Walk. It looks like it's going to be split into two buildings, which I guess is kinda cool. The taller one will be 120 ft., the smaller one will be 60 ft. And I can't tell how tall the parking garage will be.
http://i.imgur.com/9cSXaPy.jpg I forget exactly what was originally planned there, so if this is a big downgrade, that sucks. But at least it's something? And hopefully the uniqueness of it will make up for its small size. Here's a link to the PDF if you want to look at it closer. Also, I found a site plan for 7Rio. http://i.imgur.com/E8sNVrp.jpg Here's a link to that PDF. |
I'm not disappointed at all w/ Shoal Creek Walk. The original proposal wasn't stellar in design anyway, and this will still add vibrancy and density to the area that is important.

A tower crane permit request was filed for 7 Rio:

Here's another tower crane permint that was filed this week for Block 51. I guess that's the IBC bank offices.

A few of the Gables yesterday while walking town lake. Again, phone pics, too lazy to carry camera!

An update from this afternoon on the Corazon Apartments.

The Eleven Apartments on East 11th and I35.
http://i.imgur.com/i0UDocg.jpg I hope they have good soundproofing. http://i.imgur.com/ZuZ1CMP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ossvFIi.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ixXPqBp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZhVulOJ.jpg These next two are taken from their website, http://www.elevenaustin.com/# and show the views these apartments will have. http://i.imgur.com/30WLO9A.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CRgT4zG.jpg |
I really hope they conceal the existence of the parking garage underneath Eleven.

Does anyone have the link (posted a month or two ago) to the daily photographs of the construction of the the JW Marriott? I think it's a cell camera up on One Congress Plaza.
|
Oops. Never mind, it was easy to find:

I just wish there was one for 311 Bowie. |
Closest we have for 3 Eleven is this blog: http://www.urbanspacerealtors.com/news/ccc.html
But it hasn't been updated in a month. |
Here's a few photos I took of 3 Eleven Bowie last Weekend. It's above ground but not too exciting at this point.

I wish there was a project like the one on Waller Creek to make Shoal Creek run more steadily. They call the Waller Creek project a "flood diversion tunnel" but really the main objective is to pump water upward from Lady Bird Lake to get the creek water running steadily to make for a more pleasant experience.
|
I've been thinking the exact same thing since they announced the plans a few years ago for Waller. Shoal Creek would be awesome with running water all the time.
|
I totally agree! Shoal Creek is much prettier too, imo.

The Southeast corner of 18th and Guadalupe St is being torn down the last few days. The old Sonic I think. West Campus Apts with 80 units would go here. Site plan has yet to be approved though.

Awesome photos Kevin. Really love the twilight shots. The mid-rise infill is quite photogenic, and you got some great angles I don't ever see.
|
Thanks Kevin, those are some awesome pictures.

Glass is now going up at the Gables tower, & also at the Callaway House.
|
The crane base is set at Streetlights at Barton Springs. I'm betting they'll be putting up the crane next weekend, no doubt postponing it this weekend. South Congress is a madhouse right now with the Lone Star Rod & Kustom Roundup.

I think the show is only Friday and Saturday. I went last year and it was closed on Sunday. If you're wanting to just see the cars, check out the actual car show at the Travis County Expo Center. They also have more to see there and more types of cars. I saw a school bus from 1936 that had been fully restored. And they also have dragsters that they even start up. That was really something to see. You can also have more time to talk to the owners and get better photos if that's what you're into. But the scene on South Congress was neat. There were all kinds of cars. I saw people sitting out with music from the 50s and 60s playing, and of course there were some pretty cool lowriders. I saw a Lincoln parked on South Congress with hydraulics, and they had the front left wheel about 2 feet off the ground. I tried getting photos until my battery died. I'll have to post them. |
I did end up driving down Congress last night around midnight. It was almost like I was in a badass car parade, but I was just in a regular ol' Silverado. Saw a ton of old cars. People were enjoying themselves. Seeing all those amazing hot rods and muscle cars on South Congress brought a tear to my eye (well almost).

This still lists 416 Congress as under development.

We mostly know more than they do about developments. |
Most likely they are pulling their info from the emerging projects report which is less than up to date.
Excited to be coming back to Austin in June. Looks like a lot of change has happened in the few months I've been gone. |
Doug Manchester's quote wasn't as emphatic as I would have liked! Man I hope the Fairmont gets built. It's a game changer......
Also Apple's new 5 billion HQ is crazy! http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/bl...rs-swells.html |
Austin will have google fiber in 2014 why not just make our headquarters bigger. :P:shrug::cheers:

That small retail development with a huge parking garage above it on the east side of Lamar just south of REI and Book People broke ground today. It's just north of the

Yeah! ...Seaholm commencing immediately.
AND... 30 story apartment tower announced - to be delivered by mid 2015 - that would mean starting this year. one tenant will take up most of the power plant the way I read it. The low rise will be trader joes plus other retail and biz... at least they have the anchor tenants to go. http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/bl...is.html?page=2 |

Gables, Seaholm, 3eleven, and the library will all be under construction in that area soon. All that's left is GreenWater! (And the energy control buildings, but we're not counting those yet.) Here's to hoping we hear some good news about that soon!
That will be a pretty loud neighborhood for the next few years, with all of that construction going on. But it sure is going to be fun to watch. That area of downtown is finally coming together. 2013 is turning out to be a great year for Austin after all. These projects will have a big effect on the skyline. The library will be short, the Seaholm tower will be medium-sized, and then 3eleven will be tall. So, it will be graduated. I think it will look amazing. I wish someone would create a 3D model of all these buildings. |
