Maybe it is oil and they're pushing it to the granular material to sop it up. That's the standard procedure, except typically you'd cover it on the concrete and scoop it up.

Yeah, that's what I would've thought - spread sand over it and then remove the sand after, not use push brooms to push it off the slab so it can soak into the water table, but what do I know?

Took a walk around - not a single sign of the companies involved, just '24-hour CCTV monitoring'.

The company that used to be on the banners was something like 'top notch hotel builders' IIRC. I think it may have been an arm of Northlands possibly.

I wonder what spilled there. Maybe hydraulic fluid? There is a lot of it.

Can't be good for the concrete either.

Just checked Google street view, and the banner say Top Hotel Builders so you were close. When I search that it directs to Northland Properties which shows the Sutton Project at the top of its projects page.

I wonder if its an environmentally friendly type of oil? If so its not as urgent to remedy as the normal petroleum based oil.

WinCitySparky Jun 14, 2024 9:59 PM

There is no environmentally friendly oil really, it’s just likely bureaucratic underfunding/disarray/incompetence that is probably the reason there is no urgency to respond to it.

Hydraulic fluid from the crane maybe? I can't see why there would be motor oil. Either way, gonna nice extra 6 month delay when province orders them to remediate and fines Northland lol. These guys are such fucking clowns it's unbelievable.

It's funny how much posters here hate Northland when they are a massively successful business.

They're poor decisions have been an eyesore for a half decade. Not much to like.

Successful and shitty can often go hand in hand unfortunately.

Dropping concrete into the north stairwell.

Cap the well!

Wonder if this is a sign things are about to ramp right up? I guess we will see. The real indicator would be if the north crane were to be reassembled.

Caught this on the way in to the office this morning.
Looks like they are going with a single tower.

Took a quick search on the city's site but couldn't find the details; maybe someone with some spare time can track them down. :D

dmacc Jun 19, 2024 1:44 PM

The picture shows it at about the same height of the other towers but I counted 28 floors. Its hard to tell from that picture though.

Certainly looks scaled down to me. What a shame.

stjoesaints1981 Jun 19, 2024 2:08 PM

Oh well better then nothing I suppose :(
It guess TN didn't think the long term residence was worth keeping

Unbending Jun 19, 2024 2:15 PM

I wonder why they veered away from a glass tower. The other three towers are predominantly glass, giving TNS a cohesive look. Is it a cost savings measure?

pspeid Jun 19, 2024 2:29 PM

I think one of the original proposals included a residential tower. Maybe they're going with just the hotel now?

Oh well, at least the project will get finished. There'll be another hotel in the area and we'll have a tower about the same height as the Wawanesa building to look at.
