2-3 years away but they are considering one 30 floor tower.
Mixed use.
Cuts operation costs than staffing 2 buildings

Here's to hoping something gets done.

Where did that info come from? Speculation on SSP doesnt count. :)

I have no clue what SSP is? Sweet & Sour Pork?
However, I read that on here several weeks ago.
Apparently they are looking into the supports built there and may have to redo it if they go the taller 1 building option.

SkyScraper Page. This website. The pork does sound delicious though.

I think we surmised they may go with one tower. But there are technical issues with that. Hoping something comes along..

I'd be ecstatic if they went with the proposed design.

A 30 storey tower would be pretty cool though. I'd be surprised if the foundation could handle it though, normally don't design a foundation to accommodate a building that's 50% taller than proposed.

Anything is possible - however given the foundations are already in place for the original height and support locations for the 2-tower design - unless they vastly overbuilt the foundation (bordering on impossible) this is not an easy or cost-effective change to make.

^ Whats the benefit in going in this direction at this point in time as opposed to the original idea?

seems like Sutton is just perpetually losing money and wasting valuable time

I'm shocked that TNSE has allowed this project to languish so long. This is a jewel in their tiara on that block and the hotel was supposed to be a 5 star used partly for NHL teams and acts coming to town. This has been in development hell for years.

True North has no oversight on this development, they sold the land to Northland Properties, it’s entirely Northland’s project.

They're paying. The cost just isnt that significant IIRC. Maybe someone knows rates.

Case in point the Donald St Mary development cleared off the street immmedeatly. I wonder if theyre paying for the sidewalk occupancy along the Donald side ( I will assume yes they are, as they should be).

$16.90/square metre per month of street used. x 3.7m wide x ~40m long = ~$2500/month

Bloody city. There should be a couple zeroes added to that for delays this long.

Any updated pics?

No updated pics from myself, but I drove by there the other day, and it looks very slick, definitely matches the rest of the development!

zalf Dec 13, 2023 7:00 PM

I'll do what I can, though it tends to be dark out by the time I get back there. Grump is better positioned for a daylight shot.
