That's funny.

I'm missing Austin so much. I lived there for almost 50 years before moving to be closer to family. It's where I raised my cat families over the years, mostly in the same house. Still hoping some circumstances will change such that I can move back, even if at one of those independent living places where you can move to assisted living someday in the future.

So far, my best friends have been visiting me here when they can. Due to some health issues, I can't drive to Austin myself but might get the all clear after some tests in January.

Wishing you the best whatever happens for you in the future.

Wanted to bump this thread...

Austin's airport to almost double in size by 2031/2032. Going from 37 gates to 65.

In the image below, the new Concourse B will open with 26 gates (shown in blue and red). Future expansion is expressed in green.

Here is another look at how the airport will look upon Concourse B's opening:
https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/de...owerpoints.png

Gate Allotments:
Delta (Concourse A) = 15
American (Concourse A) = 9
Domestic/International CUTE (Concourse A) = 8
Alaska (Concourse A) = 1

Southwest (Concourse B) = 18
United (Concourse B) = 5
Other CUTE (Concourse B) = 3

Other CUTE (Concourse M) = 6

*CUTE gates will be utilized by non-signatory domestic airlines, international carriers, charters, and diversions. Currently, there are 5 signatory airlines and 13 non-signatory airlines serving Austin.

**Gate 13 in Concourse A will serve hardstands as well as Concourse M via bus.

$60 million contract for Austin Light Rail’s 1st phase approved by ATP board

Quote:

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A multi-million dollar design-build contract for the first phase of Austin’s first light rail system was approved on Wednesday.

Austin Transit Partnership (ATP), the local government corporation in charge of Austin’s light rail system, selected Austin Rail Constructors as the contractor for Austin Light Rail.

ATP’s Board unanimously approved the $60 million contract for Austin Rail Constructors (ARC), which is a joint venture between Stacy and Witbeck Inc. and Sundt Construction Inc.

ARC will coordinate and execute the design and construction of “nearly every aspect of the system, including the transitway, tracks, systems, stations, bridges, traffic signals, utilities, drainage structures and streetscape improvements,” according to a press release from ATP.

Wednesday’s contract approval means ATP may begin pre-construction activities and finalize the design for the first phase of what is anticipated to be a multibillion-dollar, multi-phase project for Austin Light Rail.

“This is a big, important milestone for Austin Light Rail,” ATP CEO Greg Canally said. “ATP is highly focused on delivering this much needed mobility investment for Austin, and with this contract now in place, we are on track to begin construction in 2027.

Austin’s first light rail system will feature 15 stations along a nearly 10-mile stretch and consist of all-electric trains running every 5–10 minutes throughout most of the day. Austin Light Rail will be designed to be expandable for future extensions.

So excited for the new rail line!

Illithid Dude Feb 27, 2026 2:40 AM

Great news, but I am still bummed they axed the downtown subway tunnels. Would have made the system so much more usable.

Croon Mar 2, 2026 4:28 PM

Tunnels removed.
Service ends at 38th St on the north, service ends short of the airport, service ends ay Oltorf on the south. Based on what we've seen the past 25+ years around rail transit, I would reduce expectations and wouldn't count on the route extensions to materialize.

More disappointment on top of decades of disappointment.

Not worth the cost of the server the website is hosted on, let alone the card stock campaign materials were printed on nor ink that was used. Don’t build it.
