I assume the actual parapet wont go up until the glass reaches its base, as the parapet is glass itself. So not quite topped out yet in terms of final height.

Welp, at least it beats that ugly Potzampark design, 0ne 57 tower, or whatever it's called. Horrible design, awful setbacks and base. Now, this tower could have been an amazing but Gary decided to go the safe route and the cheaper route. By cheap I mean morphology wise, the materials look nice. But shape wise, it's not very interesting you would have to admit. Typical NY developers, lol. I don't know what will make developers in NY build more interesting towers, but I think the government will need to put its foot up some pin-striped ass soon unless it wants a corporate, sterile city. Too many boring office blocks of glass recently for my liking. NY is in danger of building more and more of these piles of glass without a little piece of character at all. Not a good sign for the cities future, and I'm seriously losing interest in NYC again.

I don't like the design of CPT a whole lot, considering where it is and how tall it is. And I was with you until you got to this point:

One if the more asanine statements I've seen on this forum, putting it nicely, especially as we're getting some of the nicest towers we've seen built in this city for generations (Steinway, 53w53, Vanderbilt, 9 Dekalb, etc.) If you want to go on a rant about the state of architecture in this city or any other, do it somewhere else where people will entertain it. This thread is for Central Park Tower. |

I agree this would have been a much less conservative design, however, I have learned to hold judgement until the tower is finished. Sometimes the very last added embellishment is what makes the whole. The vertical elements of the crown, especially at night, might just be that added element that make this tower very pleasing! |
Highly forgettable. Who needs ornamentation anyway?
