But they still have the queso fountain, right?

drummer Mar 3, 2023 3:22 PM

You know, I'd be okay if the slide was an inflatable only on game days. But only if it goes into a queso fountain.

Will they just change the name of this thing to Salsa Verde Square Tortilla Chip already?

KevinFromTexas Mar 3, 2023 8:22 PM

I was noticing those protruded window bays. A few things, it looks like there's a staircase leading down the one on the right side of the building, which would be very cool to walk on. And it looks like those protruded window bays are glass on the ends, too, meaning that they effectively overhang the face of the building, sort of like the glass floor attraction at the Sears Tower in Chicago. I don't see a glass floor in these, but the view still should be quite good, and it's an interesting design feature.

I think it's important to note that the approved elevations for Verde Square have not been released as of today. So we don't know if the newly discovered renderings are the final version.

Yes I agree!

I find it hard to believe they would change the location of buildings on the site plan at the last minute. That is the kind of thing that has numerous repercussions on other elements of the site plan and would usually require a withdrawal and resubmittal of the plan. Who would want to spend a year or more in the approval process only to start over again? And if they did make such a significant last minute change, how did it get approved so quickly?

This little infill project would have been the tallest in Austin prior to the Independent’s completion in 2019. :slob:

I'll have to look it up again - but, with this tower (plus The Modern & Wilson), Austin might have all of the Top 5 tallest all-residential towers west of the Mississippi River.

555-Bed Student Housing Project to Rise at UT

Quote:

It’s likely going to be one of the most recognized buildings on campus. Hoar Construction has started work the 30-story Icon, that will soon tower over the West Campus neighborhood by the University of Texas at Austin. Hoar Construction is serving as the general contractor on the construction of the building, alongside developer The MDL Group. The tower is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025 in time for students to move in for the 2025-2026 school year.

Icon will house 555 beds across 216 apartments ranging from 1- to 5 bedroom units. The student living complex will feature amenities, including a rooftop pool, fitness center, game and lounge rooms, a podcast studio and a number of student work spaces, all located on the top floors of the building. Additionally, there will be four levels of below-ground parking. Once completed, Icon will be one of the tallest buildings in the surrounding neighborhoods.

UT Austin has the highest bed count in the nation for student housing projects currently under construction.

I like this one for this area!

Nice height for West Campus. Do we know where exactly it's going to be located?

Also announced today: the new long-awaited Texas football practice facility. Also, if you look closely in the first image, you can see there's a white building behind it that's yet to be announced (but probably something really being planned for).

The practice facility construction will start in 2023 and shouldn't take long to complete as it's not a very complicated structure. Link for more info.

The School of Social Work is in this location right now. Maybe that's being moved to that aforementioned white building.

Graduate Hotels Is Bringing Their Kitschy Unique Style To Austin

Quote:

Graduate Hotels are known for their unique and kitschy style. That’s why we think an ATX location will fit right in! If you’ve been to Nashville, you may have visited their flagship hotel and its Dolly Parton themed rooftop bar and restaurant called White Limozeen. More on that later.

A new Graduate Hotel is opening just steps away from University of Texas!

The 18-story Graduate Austin set to open in 2025 and will feature a fitness center, ground floor café and lobby bar, rooftop restaurant and bar, and a rooftop pool. The brand promises the new build’s design and decor will feature Graduate’s eclectic and creative personality and pay homage to Austin’s playful spirit.

FYI...this is not the final design. It's preliminary imaging to kick-start the fundraising.

If you are speaking about the "white" building to the immediate southwest of the new Moody Center (east of this new football facility) - that's the new basketball training facility (which is already open). The School of Social Work is moving to the space occupied by Dobie Mall.

Whats the location for this? That is a really good looking building.

What I read is that Social Work is moving to McCombs and McCombs is moving to Dobie.

McCombs? The entire business school? I definitely think not. McCombs encompasses far more SF than the School of Social Work now. There is no way they're moving one of the best business schools on the planet to a small, refurbished student mall and replace the space with the School of Social Work.
