Austin’s skyline is much more impressive when comparing 500+ footers to other cities but if you drop the threshold to 300+ feet then the skyline feels very distant and further back from cities like Houston, etc.

There’s still a very long way to go until it’s in those other cities’ league.

Another factor is that Austin’s skyline is dominated by residential, whereas others are dominated by office. The former tend to be narrower and less visually imposing than the latter. Collectively, office-dominated skylines simply look larger because the buildings have heft.

This was the case for the moment. 30 Van Ness recently began construction (540’).

I don't know. I like the privacy of my water closet. But skyline pisses at the Headliner's Club should be a bucket list item for all skyscraper nerds (at least for the males).

Not skyline-oriented, but in the Himalayas, there are some awesome road-side bathrooms with an open window looking at the mountain range. Not too shabby, if it weren't for the smell....

Austin has such a nice natural setting with the river, I'm so happy this was one of the cities that happened to boom. It could potentially rival any city outside NY or Chicago sometime this decade.

I wonder when we'll see plans for 3rd and Congress and if rumors of a new tallest are true.

Austin has very Canadian skyline/water vibe to me and I am here for it :)

I love how Austin's skyline is developing along the water of Ladybird Lake. I for one would like to see some development on the other side. We have the proposal to the west of the Hyatt Regency that looks great, but that whole block that the Austin Statesman and a couple of other low-slung office building takes up bounded by Congress on the West and Riverside on the south is screaming for redevelopment. Doesn't have to be really tall, but a handful of buildings in the 15-25 story range that step down to the South Congress neighborhood would be amazing. There's so much surface parking on that property that could be better utilized.

The big hangup right now is with city council and their desire for 10 percent of the units to be set aside for affordable housing. Mayhe that number is higher. Developer I believe is endeavor? I hope it happens. I'm with you because it's just weird all that underutilized land. Nice that the Rainey area is stretching the skyline.
