The surface lot on the site closes next Monday, and right of way closures for construction begin the following Monday for the 710' Republic Tower.

Not long ago, downtown wasn't visible from my neighborhood even though we're less than 5 miles from the north edge of downtown. Currently, though, downtown is visible from many locations in my neighborhood, including Burnet Rd and Balcones Dr. I can see it very clearly from my rooftop, at least during the winter when the trees are bare, and the buildings look surprisingly close, I guess because they're so tall.

I've noticed how close and tall these new buildings look from all parts of central Austin. Once the supertall and all the 600-875 towers get built I'm curious how big and close downtown will feel from various neighborhoods. People might be surprised that the once distant burb they thought they bought/live in will feel... like a big inner city neighborhood.

New high-rise proposal stirring up controversy as it’ll take out some old structures on a stretch that holds Austin’s queer culture.

West Fourth and Colorado Tower Plans a Place for Austin’s Oldest Gay Bar

Quote:

A deal between Houston-based multifamily developer Hanover Company and downtown property owners alongside the management of Austin’s oldest gay bar and dance club Oilcan Harry’s would raise an approximately 40-story, 400-unit apartment tower at the corner of West Fourth and Colorado Street — a proposal that’s already drawn significant attention from the city’s LGBT community after appearing on the agenda of the Historic Landmark Commission’s April 11 meeting, due to the tower’s footprint requiring the demolition of several buildings inside the Warehouse District.

It was nice to watch after I turned down the music and put on Pink Floyd "Echoes."

The Republic Tower is underway and has a major pre-lease. But the developer is not saying who it is.

Ok, I might as well come out and say it: It's me. I'm taking up the whole thing as my apartment. I'm kind of a big deal. I have many leather-bound books....

You'll have plenty of space for your collection of Small Chryslers.

Probably worth noting that the Moody Center just opened after years of construction. We'll be seeing many shows and events here in the coming years.

Matthew McConaughey's speech/sing-a-long to open it up is pretty hilarious. "Let's bless the Mood!"

I updated the Austin Tallest Projects List:

https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...05&postcount=6

There are at least 53 tower projects over 300'. Of those, 30 are over 400', 20 are over 500' and 11 are over 600'. Hopefully the supertall at #1 will get a green highlight on the next update. There are also 10-12 other projects that will make the list once we get public info on the height.

ATXboom Apr 22, 2022 10:40 PM

Wow! Nice work on the list.
