I emailed Gensler to get the building heights for GreenWater, which is the official name by the way. The individual buildings, however, do not have official names yet. So they're calling them by their block number. I try not to complain over anything over 400 feet but all of these buildings except the hotel will basically all be the same height, we already have several 400 footers this will just solidify my feeling that Austin is going to have a very flat skyline overall.

Yeah, we have at least six 400 footers in the works. And that's on top of the 4 that we already have. And that's not even counting at least 3 others that are probably either dead or have been scaled down.

GreenWater needs to take 15 floors off Block 1 and add that to Block 185...as their original plan....that won...had! After they got the city to approve their concept it changed. The original proposal has buildings of differing heights...now they are the same. Something smells rotten here. Bait and switch?

I was never even a fan of Trammel Crow's original proposal. I was wishing for Stratus. The building designs were amazing. Good height, too, with a 650 footer with 54 floors. Plus a downtown HEB grocery store. And the designs were nice and modern. It's too bad the Museum Tower didn't happen. It would have been a nice complement with Stratus's design, and I think they were having their architect do the central library back then. Plus the buildings had green roofs.
Still, I'm not exactly disappointed with what we'll get. I just hope we actually get it. I mean, there will be 3 new 400 foot towers on a property that for the last 60 years has been used to treat the city's water in downtown. I just wish the buildings were a little taller. They should have been a good 100 feet taller at least with maybe one on the north side of the development being taller as austex said. By the way, one tid bit. When the woman at Gensler sent me these heights. She said that Block 1 (the bigger east residential tower) is "currently" planned as a 412 foot building. I sort of took it as a hint that the building might be taller eventually. I don't know if I'm just reading into it, but she didn't word it that way for the other towers. So who knows. The Block 1 tower is the taller of the two residential towers (only by 2 feet), but it has 682K square feet. About 250K more than the Block 185 tower. And in the renderings that building doesn't seem all that much larger than Block 185. |
816 Congress will get a green roof. See the link for renderings. They're also planning a water collection system from condensation from the building's HVAC system. And all the materials used will be recycled.

I'm still wanting to get RiverView (on Riverside). Two of the buildings there should be highrises and one for sure is, and then Callaway House which should be around 180 feet tall or so. |

Do we have anything for the Seaholm Plant? I still just have a bunch of "?" for that one. I wouldn't even know what to guesstimate at there. |
Nothing on Seaholm yet. I do want to get that one obviously. That project has changed designs so many times with height increases each time. Right now I'm trying to hurry to get the ones that are already under construction, especially the smaller projects that will be completed soon (RiverView). Those small buildings finish quick. Once a project is completed it's hard to find its height then because the company has to go drag out the files from storage. Plus if they're still marketing it, it's an incentive to them to give out information to stir up interest in their project.
By the way, there's some activity with 7Rio. This was previously planned as a 34-story tower that would have been 400 feet tall located at 605-615 West 7th Street. It has since been scaled down to 24 floors. Here's a quote from the city's website. This was posted June 1st. Quote:

Has anyone heard anything about the planned Hotel Van Zandt? Their permit application expired on July 15, but there was still some activity in their files with the city as recently as yesterday for transportation and water utility review and things.
