Oh that's not a bad siding, kinda looks like wood. A good pick to go with the red bricks. Thanks for the update!
|
yea, that same siding is being used on the front too...not bad.
|
|
What the hell are they going to do with that circular front piece?

Gullivers! That place was a gem--another place that faded away without much fanfare--probably the most classic "motor hotel" in the city--and how do you beat a place that had a restaurant called the Lilliputian Room.
|
That was originally a hotel? I thought it was always a car dealership.

Gulliver's Travels Hotel was a hotel at Centennial and Queenston Road. It was torn down in the 80's(?) to make way for a plaza. Update 02 Apr. http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4115/img4313ug6.jpg http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9104/img4314tq5.jpg |
Yes LikeHamilton--I'm thinking Gullivers was demo-ed around '86 or '87 to make way for "Gulliver Square" the Hy & Zels-anchored plaza.
|
that siding looks like shite.

all brick would have worked nicely.

Jerk is right for the way that this building relates to the street. Is this building located at the side of the 401 or Main St.? I can't tell from this picture.

I don't mind the siding but they could have dressed up that top blank area above the windows!
|
I imagine the space between the top windows and the roof will be for the Days Inn sign along Main St.
|
I don't think it looks that bad--the reclaimed brick is a nice touch.
All brick would've been nice--but according to previous discussions on this Forum that would've been "fake" anyway. |
I can take another look as I pass by it on the way home today, but I am pretty sure that new brick was used here, not reclaimed brick. It would have looked much better if the brick stretched up to the same point on the second floor window line. The yellow siding is overwhelming. A bit of a shingled roofline placed along the edge would have dressed it up a bit too. But that's all added cost, after all.
By the way, what's going on with the circular portion? The windows on the lower level have been removed and replaced by what looks like metal studwork. Looks like some panels are getting fitted with windows with sliders on the bottom. I see one of the lower windows on the north side has already been tagged with grafitti... |
Ok--I should correct myself--at least in the online photos it looks like "reclaimed-style" brickwork--could be calcite for all I know. I for one am absolutely sick and tired of tagging/graffiti--does anyone know if the city's that have enacted 'spray paint' bylaws have had any success. I know London went that route--curious if it's had any positive impact.

Reclaimed brick or new brick that looks reclaimed - who the hell cares ...
