I would say it is both. NIMBYism seems to be a rare non-partisan issue.

Based on ATX's diagrams and the FAA filing - this may actually be closer to 1042'.

EDIT: Based on compelling arguments on the Austin Forum, I'm currently in agreement that this tower is about 1031' in height.



Wilshire Grand has a 166' spire bringing it to 1100'. The peak of 98 Red River/Waller Creek Tower's roofline will be just under 100' taller than Wilshire's roof.

I second the notion that NIMBYism is non partisan. People want what they want for neighbors and context regardless of politics. But philosophically, regulating what can / can't be built is left leaning.

I disagree, I don't know a single republican who would be okay with seeing a single family neighbor's home torn down for a small apartment complex.

You don't know me, but I (frequently Republican) would be delighted by that.

One would have to raise a least several homes for a "small apartment complex." Plus, there's going to be a zoning issue in accomplishing said feat.

I'm a conservative and would be in favor of more dense development in the inner city - especially if they got a great buyout deal! Heck, if the price was right, I might sell too.

Having said that, if said development was to occur in the suburbs, that would be more challenging.

Austin has at least seven 500 footers in development, and 4 of those are under construction.

The image posted is of Hanover Republic Square (you can see that it is adjacent to the Hotel ZaZa). Also, according to the Austin sub-forums - Hanover Brazos is 45 stories and 513' and Hanover Republic Square is 44 stories and 514'. If these are incorrect, either you or TheATX need to make the appropriate adjustments.

Before IluvATX edited his post, he had the rendering up for Hanover 3rd & Brazos. He was only posting projects that were under construction. Hanover 3rd & Brazos is not under construction, but Hanover Republic Square is.

The difference in height for Hanover Republic Square is because the first elevations we saw didn't show the mechanical penthouse. There had been some modification to the roof that added height. I had the 516 foot height listed in my files, but I'm not sure why the thread title wasn't updated.

As for Hanover 3rd & Brazos, I'm not sure why I said 514 feet. It is 513 feet according to the elevations. However, there was an FAA permit filed in August that said 514 feet.
