1) 311 West Seventh - New, ~40-story development near 6xGuad is working its way through the city entitlement process now:

2) The Railyard - A new development on the site where the old Railyard condos are. My cousin used to live there. Great location - had lots of fun there. Karlin Real Estate (Los Angeles) paid just under $1500/SF for the ~1.62 ac property (a record). They are marketing the following for the site. Could be Austin's first supertall:

Looks like the Railyard Project is more than just marketing. Development paperwork has been submitted to the city. ATX Tower East, and ATX Tower West are the project names currently given for the towers. No information as of yet on tower heights or floor counts.

ATX Tower East: 500 Apts. + 300 Condos + 15K Sq. Ft. Retail
ATX Tower West: 884K Sq. Ft. office + 15K Sq. Ft. Retail

These are definitely going to be of significant height, possibly new tallest candidates. Looking forward to seeing the final design and details of these towers.

Wow, awesome news! Hope it becomes reality.

This could be a major centerpiece for Austin!

Dariusb Feb 8, 2020 6:58 AM

They are going to be real beauties I bet.

I agree!

When does this start?

g-man435 took a lot of incredible drone photos around downtown shortly after sunrise this morning. Most of them are posted in the individual project threads in the Austin subforum.

Here are some of g-man's skyline shots. Austin has ~45 towers in development between 300' and 1,000'. Almost 1/3 (14) of them have already started. The skyline will be seriously ramping up over the next five years - as long as the economy doesn't tank.

Such great pics! Gotta get these in the pic forum.

Simply amazing! Austin shaping up to have the best skyline in Texas!

Well done! This is some Miami/Seattle level cray...

I believe this is a mobile chilled water supply unit. Does anyone know what building it is for? It's at 4th and Rio Grande.

Great pics by g-man! I think Austin always looks best mid-spring, when leaves are lush but still fresh and bright green. Hopefully we will see another round of amazing aerial pics then!

I think it’s cool that the city leaders in Austin (unlike a near by city), are thinking big when it comes the transit. They are not going to settle for Bus Rapid Transit or street level Light Rail through the downtown area. They are thinking full on subway.
Quote:

“We can go small and fail or we can make the right investment for the future of our city,” council member Jimmy Flannigan said. “We’re talking about rail in a tunnel. That’s a subway. I mean, wow. That’s what real cities do.”
I think that is the correct choice for a city like Austin. Do not look at Houston or San Antonio for inspiration, if you are going to look at a Texas city look at Dallas but you should really draw inspiration from rail systems like DC Metro.

If Austin decided to do big things transit wise, it'd definitely make it a potential leader in transportation in the south/southwest.

Syndic Feb 22, 2020 2:52 PM

A user added some of the upcoming projects to show what it will look like. (There are a couple 600+ footers that aren't shown here because they haven't given us quality renderings yet.)
