I've never had In-N-Out but being from New York I'm a Shake Shack devotee...dunno what I'll do without it when I move to ATX lol.

Ugh. All of these except the Runtex site are suburban. A few of them sounded particularly grievous; like your run-of-the-mill McMansion subdivisions. But I guess it's to be expected. It's the answer to the question "How are we going to accommodate all of these new residents?". But it really isn't that bad, considering, to the north, the sprawl goes miles and miles all the way up to Cedar Park and Round Rock whereas the land near the airport is much closer to downtown. I would probably rather live in these new subdivisions than in Round Rock.

The Runtex redevelopment sounds really intriguing, though. So glad it's mixed use. We'll definitely have to keep an eye on that one.

if you must have fresh ingredients on a cheap burger, then you will find it a delightful place. i was being overly facetious on that comment. they are good burgers. i just don't get the hype about them and why it should be news anywhere if it does open up. the taste is not exceptionally superior to any other burger i've had even from a burger that doesn't serve fresh ingredients. but it's still a good burger and i eat them every now and then if i'm near by the place.

People seem to get excited about burger places that are not in their area. I know people from outside of Texas who get excited about Sonic and Whataburger because they don't have them where they live.

I was excited to see Carl's Jr. Pop up here. Used to love going there every time I went to LA and Orange County to visit my Grandmother and family. Love the cute happy face star.

yeah but i'm sure the excitement didn't rival the excitement people had when in-n-out was opened in dfw. like that one lady that started crying on the news. i mean, come on. seriously?

I know some people in Michigan who were scary excited when the first Sonic opened up by them a couple years ago. You're right about the In-n-Out hysteria though. Here's a picture from Today's Statesman showing a line at a new In-n-Out about to open in the DFW area:

The funny thing is that certain Austin local restaurants always have lines like that now.

HopDoddy burgers on SoCo has lines almost that long all the time. Not just opening day. It's probably getting a little better now that they have a second location, but it's been crazy for a long time.

Franklin's BBQ has lines like that every day.

Considering P Terry's is In N Out, but locally owned and without the side of political crazy I'll continue to support them.

That and they hire a local architect (Hsu) for all of their locations and don't just open up identical stores.

yeah but for bbq i can totally understand. especially if its for a place like franklin's that serves at odd hours. besides there's a major difference with the fanaticism of a place like in-n-out vs restaurants that just have busy lines all the time. it's not like that crazy obsessed fanaticism of the kind.

well, in a sense, there is a fanaticism with bbq as well. like who makes the best bbq, and the long endless pointless debates over them. i see no point in that myself. haha

OMFGG I LOVE SONIC! They have them in New Jersey but not in Staten Island and me and my friends make trips, pilgrimages if you will, just to eat there.

This. Original "cube" design was waaay cooler IMHO.

The IBC Bank reminds me of Park Plaza tower. Perhaps this tower will top 200ft.

what is it with the designs constantly changing? it's beginning to get annoying. it always ends up being mediocre in comparison to the original designs.

It's nothing new. Designs always change. The Frost Bank Tower started out as a 352 foot 27 floor tower. I did like the old design more. This one looks almost suburban. I don't think it's going to be all that tall either, maybe 150 to 160 feet. I could be wrong, but it doesn't appear very tall from the rendering and it's only 13 floors.

yeah but they shouldn't change that much and to that extent of an ugly design from its original proposal. i feel that these developers just get really good artists to design something awesome just so they could trick people in approving their projects and then leaving some screwed and ugly design that no one's happy with. i think they should be held accountable for it to some extent. that design is trash, i really would rather there be nothing. at least more cool food trucks can occupy that space instead of this hideous design. i'm mostly upset because of how nice the first design looked like and now this. i mean, the two designs are night and day in terms of likability.
