Filling in the blanks with planned buildings, it's remarkable how the downtown skyline will merge with midtown + Montrose in the view from Hannover's River Oaks. The next phase of Caydon plus the midtown towers by other developers (esp. the one across from Whole Foods and the one farther north than Caydon) results in downtown + midtown skylines merging from points west.
I'm watching the same thing happen with downtown + The Allen + Midtown + Montrose + the rest of Allen Parkway when viewed from the northwest. Our skylines are merging and they are HUGE. |
^Man, when all of these skylines merge Houston will reclaim it's # 3 spot in the skyline race from Miami and Los Angeles step back.

nice shots.. thanks for the info.

The one area where LA is ahead is that some of LA's suburbs like Long Beach, Irvine, Anaheim, and Burbank all either have skylines or highrise clusters. The Woodlands and Galveston need to step up their game and more suburbs need to get in on the action IMO. MIA's metro area has lots of cities with highrises and skyscrapers, much more than LA and HOU. Buildings over 100 meters 1. Miami 118 2. Houston 103 3. LA 74 http://www.skyscrapercenter.com/cities |
well what can we do to catch up?

Guys check this out
http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?cityID=28 So many of the buildings that they have listed as “under construction” for HOU are done like Capitol Tower, Hanover BLVD Place, Hanover River Oaks, Camden Conte, Marlowe, Memorial Hermann TMC expansion, etc. So many buildings in the “proposed” section are either under construction or already done like the Blossom Hotel, Thompson Hotel and Residences at the Allen, Gables Westcreek, Broadstone at Chelsea Market in the Museum District, the Bowen, Elan Memorial Park, Greystar Phase 2 in the Heights, Block 387 Downtown, Hilton-Staybridge in Uptown, Home2Suites in the Med Center, the office building in the Midlane mixed use near ROD, Tradition Woodway (the Homey), etc. Then there are buildings that don’t even show up on any of their data lists like the Preston or Drewery Place, the highrises U/C in Memorial City and U/C in City Centre, that 16 story Embassy hotel that finished construction in Energy Corridor like 4 years ago. HOU has well over 500 buildings above 10 stories done now but that list has had it stuck at 494 for 2.5 years... I'm gonna go ahead and make a compilation of all the errors and request a database correction. I'll skim through HAIF and see which buildings have been built, are under construction, and proposed to make the list. Need to get the HOU database to the present timeline. It's database is still stuck in the last construction cycle even though so many buildings have been built since then. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...postcount=9865 |

Great article. I know few if any of us will be alive then but do any of you ever wonder what Houston's skylines will look like in 100 years or even in the next 50?

That piece has some great construction photos of the area though. I tended to feel nostalgic for the construction photos of the O'Quinn Tower (or 6624 Fannin Tower if you're going on the current name) most of all. I remember seeing it new as a kid on field trips into the city and thought it was so cool at the time. It still is one of my favorites in town. |

I remember spending a few days at Herman Hospital when I was a kid. From my window I could watch the steel frame going up on the Conoco Building (with the WeatherEye!)

“Saudi Arabia Stuns World With Massive Discount In Oil Sold To Asia, Europe And U.S. ... Oil prices are down more than 30% this year. “
Say goodbye to Houston’s real estate boom. https://www.npr.org/2020/03/08/81343...-europe-and-u- Of course, with lower gasoline prices, it'll be easier to drive around the country searching for places unaffected by Coronavirus. |
UGH this is not good. Can we cut production to raise the price?

Great piece from CoStar (Paywall) on the TMC and the potential of growth in the realm of medical device innovation. Selected quote sums up the potential and the tease of a major announcement forthcoming for the TMC|3 area which is about to begin construction.

It's interesting how a private developer recreated the feel of a downtown in the suburbs, complete with pedestrian malls and ground floor retail. But since it's all private land there are no panhandlers. It's like Disney Land.
|
Ok question. Do you see these kinds of developments as trying to promote density in the burbs? Are any of Houston's inner suburbs becoming more dense?
|
^ Not really, the areas surrounding City Centre (Energy Corridor/ Memorial, etc) are mostly solid SFH neighborhoods where some density could sprout up in the commercial areas but doubtful it will ever look like the inner loop with the townhouses and loads of upscale apartments and high rise residential.

Isn’t spring branch basically everything between I-10, BW8, and 290 though? The management district that does the signs is all that which is not also in their be of the incorporated village cities. It’s all SBISD as well.
The area around gessner might officially be Memorial City district though. |
