It was called The Riley, was being built on 4th street next to the gay clubs, supposed to be an event center or something? two stories.

Still under construction. It's moving very slowly. I'm not sure it's still going to look exactly like the rendering. It's tough to tell at this point.

:previous: A-Loft?

Also has one elevation has no curtainwall. Is there a future development proposed next to this?

KevinFromTexas Aug 5, 2016 2:40 AM

^It's possible that there could be, though, there isn't anything planned that we know of. City fire code prohibits windows on a facade that abuts another lot.

I had some time to kill so I walked around catching Pokemon and snapping some pics of developments. Here's Seaholm looking all snazzy.

They painted this wall. It looks much better now.

Boiler Nine restaurant. Really want to go to this place. The upstairs part looks really cool.

The real reason I went over there. The new Austin Public Library looks to be nearing completion. It turned out better than I expected. Especially the front side (facing Cesar Chavez). Grand opening is in November. Check out that "art wall".

This lawn looks really sexy now. It will be awesome when they start holding events here.

Agreed - this looks so much better than before.

They ripped out the trees, though. :(

I was wondering if they did...I couldn't remember what was there and didn't have time to go back to previous photos. That is a shame, but I guess they wanted to highlight he artwork.

Looks nice!!

The new Restoration Hardware for The Domain will be 4 stories. Excited for this!

The ATX Aug 15, 2016 4:10 AM

Here's 2016 Rev. 9 of my list of Austin's tallest active projects that are at least 100' tall (or appear to be based on available information.) I usually just post these on Urban Planet, but I'll start posting my updates here. There are five status types:

U/C - Cement has been poured

Site Prep - Dirt is moving or utility work is underway

Site Demo - At least one structure on the site has been or is being demolished

Proposed - A specific project has been announced or has had building permit(s) filed with specific structure information

Planned - A project has been announced or has had building permit(s) filed but without specific structure information, more visionary in nature

Projects highlighted in green (as in go) are underway with financing in place. These can include projects with a Site Prep or Site Demo status.

Projects highlighted in yellow have been completed during the current calendar year and have been removed from the active projects count.

The rendering was released today for the 30-story Marriott at Cesar Chavez. The article also revealed the rendering and size (11 floors) of the hotel that's planned for MLK Boulevard & San Antonio Street near UT.

After 2-year delay, work starts on Hotel ZaZa in downtown Austin

Quote:

After a delay that lasted nearly two years, developers said this week that work has started on a 24-story downtown Austin tower that will house a 160-room high-end hotel and about 200 apartments.

Hotel ZaZa and Gables Residential first announced the project at West Fourth and Guadalupe streets in 2012, with plans to start construction in 2014 and open in 2016.

Instead, the lot – formerly the site of The Ginger Man, a bar – has sat largely untouched.

The project’s new completion date is late 2018, Hotel ZaZa president Benji Homsey said.

Aside from the pushed-back opening date, little about the project has changed, Homsey and Gables Residential development director Jennifer Wiebrand said. The same lenders are on board, the number of hotel rooms and apartment units remains the same and the building’s look is unaltered.

Nice. It's good to finally have official word from the developers. It's one of my favorite projects, due to the sort of neoclassical design elements and the use of that old facade. Gives it an authentic Texas feel.

My god buildings in Austin are getting prettier and prettier!
