100 years from now, people on this site will be complaining about the 1400 ft plateau. Such is life.

Lol I was thinking something similar. Who knows.. in 100 years my brain Synaptics could be in an advanced humanoid android....

So I was looking closely at revised renderings and I imagine them building a whole new section on top of the lower portion like they did with that tower in Chicago. I'm not saying it's going to be like, that but it would be cool if they designed it in that way.

A ROW closure permit filed today indicates that Demo/site prep will begin 08/14.

This tower is a case study on why it's important to under-sell and over-deliver (and not vice-versa).

I always state that Frost should have been 100 ft taller...yeah can you imagine Frosty at 1400 ft!

All towers should be 100' taller. ;)

That said, the original Wilson design was slick. The shorter design, as others have opined, misses the mark.

If only it was 100 feet taller...

The bronze is worth it though still, even if it’s short, it at least adds some warmth to tie in some of those less attractive high rises there. The more bronze we get the better the Sheraton will look. If they could just do somthing about the Hilton garden inn though yuck
If I’m not mistaken, frost in San Antonio (i thought also austin) builds their new buildings with 20 year leases and occupied their previous buildings for a little over that so maybe in another decade or so they will be upset you can’t see the building anymore and they will erect a new mega frost tower.
What a gloriously long run on sentence
@jdawgboy It would be cool though if skyscrapers were engineered like hospitals and they could come back and stack more floors on top later.

The Frost Bank Towers in Austin and San Antonio, both look like they are half as tall as they are supposed to be. short and squatty.
I love the designs, just too short.

I'm taking solace in this being a connection we can have to the growth of the NY skyline when the Met Life North building was going to be a supertall and got severely cut down.

We can also point to it to visitors and say " did you know this was going to be double the height?"

StoOgE Jul 31, 2023 10:12 PM

So,

I have a source I trust really well that I dont ask a lot (they told me about some of the Rainey stuff a few years ago) - I was told this tower was absolutely never ever going to be the max height. The shorter version of this has been floating around at the same time and the taller version was a publicity stunt looking for an investor or tenant to fall out of the sky.

Well, that would make this a true bait & switch. It got national attention, so it worked. :(

That's a very odd thing to do if accurate, doesn't lend much confidence and doesn't really look good at all publicly. I don't know just sounds odd to me. Them going for the actual hight and the city gov rejecting the original proposal seems more logical..

The City never rejected the height or original proposal. The developer changed plans.
