Awesome shot from the Bow and of Vancouver. I feel like some sort of VIP getting to see that sort of stuff before my friends, ha!
|
I'd just say that it is Vancouveresque, really. Vancouverism deserves as much credit as Manhattanism does. Vancouver's development has been incredible and has spawned a new form of development that cities all over the continent are trying to emulate. Ultra-livable-density.
Ps. Ouu I should grab some shots of our new separated bike lanes being installed downtown! |
it's manhattanesque, but you can also tell that it would feel a lot different than manhattan at street level.
but these are the quibbles of a 12-year SSP participant. |
September 14, 2013 - Duckworth Street East from Cavendish Square, St. John's, NL
This is two streets up from the harbour. Water Street (our main, downtown street) is just downhill to the left. And left of that is Harbour Drive. The big buildings on the left are, from left, the Marriott Hotel, the Humphrey Gilbert Building, TD Place, and then in the distance are the Cabot Place Towers on New Gower Street. The park between the Humphrey Gilbert Building and TD Place is the National War Memorial, which runs from Duckworth to Water Street. Directly opposite the Memorial across Water Street is Harbourside Park, so combined they're basically a small, two-block park. During the day, there's always crowds lounging on the grass. It's a nice atmosphere, one of those places you can find one just like and feel at home in just about city on earth (except Istanbul, now. :(). http://www.newfoundland-photos.com/C...5_edited-L.jpg |

Salt, Maddox, and Rolston realllly make a huge impact on that area. Very good! :D

Finally got around to seeing the mosaicultures event everyone's been raving about in Montreal. Pretty incredible stuff.

Great photos, raggedy13! Please do post those also on the Vancouver section.
I like the view from Jericho Beach, however I do not like how wide Shangri-La looks from that angle. Anyways, need to get there sometimes for some nice photos. |

It's too bad the rocket is only temporary. It fits right into it's surroundings.

I like the rocket. I should go see it soon.

Such a nice city park and they have done a really good job of re-vamping the landscaping. I like the loose chairs that can be moved around like they have in parks and squares in Manhattan. The park also includes fountains, a public library in an historic Carnegie building and a little cafe, the Boxwood. The building across the street is the Sheldon Chumir Downtown Health Centre.

Now that the Rocket is there, and now that I know there are ground fountains there, I'll have to stop by after work on Friday!

Unfortunately, the 2 large fountains at Central Memorial Park are off. Not sure why, it seems a little early to shut them down for winter. |
Yeah, but remembering how early the snows hit last year, I don't blame them.
|
I hate when they close the fountains early. So unnecessary. They should be open until Oct 15.

Such a great shot. I appreciate the moodiness but I'd love to see a summer tourist-style photo of that exact angle as well. That'd be a fantastic way to promote Montreal and show what's really unique about it that you just can't experience in most of Canada's large cities. |
i used to live on de la visitation, just in front of that church, back in 2001-2002. cute street.

There are so many angles to catch this great beauty.

A view of the backside of the first hill in St. John's. The entirety of downtown is sandwiched between the top of the hill (about where The Rooms is) and the harbour. http://i42.tinypic.com/vddb8w.jpg |
That's cool, almost the whole skyline is hidden behind the hill :P
