In person, this arena looks a lot larger than it actually is. It's as if the aliens have discovered New Jersey and landed...

The sad thing will be if they dont putt as much into building the team personnel after this stadium is done. It would be an absolute embarassment to have the by far the best stadium in the MLS be
inhabited by worst Soccer team in the MLS..... and probably the worst professional team in the world.

***P.S.. The best comparison of this stadium would be a larger version in Germany called the Allianz Arena.

Yeah, this will definitely be the best MLS stadium, and in the middle of the most lucrative market, so the team better improve, and soon.

And if MLS has any intelligence, they will award a Queens team soon, most likely to the Wilpons. It's absolutely insane that what is easily the largest concentration of South Americans in the U.S. lacks professional soccer.

All those Ecuadorians, Peruvians and Colombians in Central Queens, and no soccer?

J. Will Jul 5, 2009 3:46 PM

Queens won't be getting an MLS team any time soon, as they just got a USL team. Their best bet for an MLS team would be for the USL team to move up to the MLS in 5-6 years.

Unfortunately I think Allianz Arena is in a whole other league.

Indeed, no point in comparing them.

But this, without a doubt, will be the best SSS in the MLS

What the hell is USL? And what does that have to do with MLS?

And if they aren't getting an MLS team soon, then why has the MLS Commissioner's office been trying to convince the Wilpons to apply for a franchise? This has been a very public effort.

There isn't a market in the nation that makes more sense than Queens. This includes existing MLS markets. You have about 500.000 South Americans in a few square miles surrounding the Wilpon site.

Wow

You talk like you know soccer yet you don't know what USL has to do with MSL, nor do you even know what it is.

That was prior to Queens being awarded a USL team. They won't be getting an MLS team now, unless the USL teams moves up. If MLS is NA's Premier League, USL is The Football League, only there is no performance-based promotion or relegation like in the UK. That wouldn't be for at least 5-6 years. I'm kind of surprised I'm having to explain this.

Most teams, even the locals go through dark periods.

Seriously? Talking soccer and don't know what the United Soccer League is? Right now it's top division has teams in Vancouver, Portland, Austin, Miami, Cleveland, Montreal, Puerto Rico, etc. The Seattle Sounders of the MLS just moved "up" from the USL First Division and Vancouver will do the same in a couple of years. It's now the preferred way of getting into MLS so there is less risk from a new franchise. Instead, MLS gets a franchise with a fan base and proven front office. That is the only way Queens is getting into MLS and even that wont happen until 2015 at the earliest.

It would be nice if that got built. I do think the parking garage is rising already.

Busy Bee Jul 18, 2009 12:05 AM

Wow. that looks really nice. That's a big concrete plaza though, not sure of the wisdom behind that.

Agreed on the wind-swept plaza. Particularly since little of the development in the area (aside from the stadium) is likely to go ahead any time soon.

Flew over the arena a couple of days ago. Both this arena and the Prudential are tied together through Downtown Newark.

The first complete roof section at Red Bull Arena was finished yesterday. The facade panels have all been installed around Red Bull Arena and now, the first of the roof panels was finished today. The roof panels extend 120 feet from the facade over the seating bowl with the final 60 feet composed of translucent panels. These translucent panels will allow natural light to pass through into the bowl. In total, there will be 94 panels used to complete the Red Bull Arena roof. When completely installed, the roof will extend over the entire seating bowl and curve down to the concourse.

Fans can already see the dynamic stadium as all of the lower roof panels are installed making the stadium visible from the air and highways. Red Bull Arena is now noticeable for fans passing through Harrison on Interstate 280 and from the New Jersey Turnpike, as well as from the air.

How exactly are they "tied together"? Besides the fact they are managed by AEG?
