'mystery' location
"Original 35MM Glass Slide Television Station KLAC LOS ANGELES CA. 1950'S" http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/WzAB9V.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/original-35M...kAAOSwA3dYhI3X I'm confused because I could only find information on KLAC Radio, not Television. Is anyone familiar with this station? You can clearly see the word 'Television' beneath the call letter. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/Ngcj9E.jpg __ |
I happen upon this photograph of Sheriff Eugene W. Biscailuz on ebay earlier today.
It gives you a good look at at his office (there's even a stuffed deer's head!) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/i7UVSR.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/LASO-LOS-ANG...YAAOSwux5YPdGu Here's what's written on the reverse. (it's a bit of a mystery) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/NzyMZh.jpg So who is Prinz ? __ |
I do volunteer work sorting donated books for our local Friends of the Library group. Last week this fell out of one of the donated books:
http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/...ail%20view.jpg After I did a little research I found this picture of the establishment at 524 S. Spring Street on Pipedia. http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/...l%20view_2.jpg https://pipedia.org/wiki/John's_Pipe_Shop Amazing the things that fall out of old books! I know I'm jumping the gun here but since I won't be near the computer tomorrow here's an advanced congratulations for all involved at this wonderful site for reaching a landmark 2,000 pages! |

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...anneryRow1.jpg santacruztrains.com The article says that Carmel Canning Co's packing house was destroyed in a fire in 1967, and another warehouse, which was damaged in the fire, was completely rebuilt in 1971. There are still four elevated conveyor bridges crossing Cannery Row, but I can't match any of the 1950s buildings (the earliest image at Historic Aerials is 1968). Here's a more recent view. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...anneryRow2.jpg www.carmelmissioninn.com/Scot Hampton |

Don't know where this KLAC building was, but the image must be from before 1954 or so...the call letters were changed to KCOP that year...more here https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Jt...Q=w811-h605-no |
Drive-in restaurant, Los Angeles, 1937 ???
This is one of the more striking finds I've come across lately but have no info on it other than "Drive-in restaurant, Los Angeles, 1937"
Can anybody provide more details? https://martinturnbull.com/wp-conten...eles-1937.jpeg It looks a bit like a modified version of Delores Drive in at Sunset & LaBrea. https://martinturnbull.com/wp-conten...2/image496.gif |

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...arpenters1.jpg Martin, the title of this page on your site is Carpenter’s Drive-in restaurant, corner Sunset Blvd & Vine St, Hollywood, yet that looks like the Wilshire Professional Building in the background, so I think we're looking at the recently discussed Carpenter's at 667 S Western Avenue. |

Same clock, (below first "A" in Magazine) (This image clearly predates the 1951 magazine publication date. Probably more info inside the covers. 3 Little Pigs was released in '33. (Kay Francis and Ramon Novarro may have been on the same bill, but not same feature.) http://st.hotrod.com/uploads/sites/2...1951-cover.jpghttp://st.hotrod.com/uploads/sites/2...1951-cover.jpg :hi: Original NLA post here:http://skyscraperpage.com/forum/show...ostcount=24702 And without the overlay: https://i2.wp.com/thechicaneblog.com...osangeles.jpeghttps://i2.wp.com/thechicaneblog.com...osangeles.jpeg |

Or you can stay right here and get your Julius Shulman pictures for free :). I couldn't resist Julius Shulman pictures of another Richard Neutra house. As it turns out, e_r has already visited this location in post #31404. The vintage images in that post are from this photoset. It's "Job 134: Sinay (Joseph) House (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 1947". We've seen the first photo before. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...1.jpg~original A view of the garden at the rear. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...2.jpg~original I've picked a couple of interior shots, and omitted the one already posted by e_r. This one shows part of the kitchen. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...3.jpg~original Large windows look out onto the balcony. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...4.jpg~original Here's the same balcony viewed from outside. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...5.jpg~original All from Getty Research Institute The Joseph Sinay House can still be found at 1861 Heather Court, Beverly Hills. Here's the information available at ncmodernist.org: Sold to Linda and Morris Halfon. Won first prize in House+Garden's 1947 Architectural Awards. Sold in 2001 to Mark Haddawy and Kathleen Rodriguez who still owned it as of 2014. Named in 2008 as a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Landmark. The trees and closer neighbors make it difficult to get a "now" shot, but I just about managed. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...6.jpg~original GSV For a change, I'm going to finish a Julius Shulman post with a bit of noir. According to 'Hollywood Death and Scandal Sites' by E J Fleming, aspiring 21-year-old actor Michael Boyer was found shot to death at the house in 1965. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...7.jpg~original books.google.com |
