That render is a bit generous to 30 Hudson Yards.

I wouldn't read too much into it. It's supposed to show 30 Hudson and the others as being closer to the Hudson. I would have liked to at least see Silverstein's tower in that render. And there is also the matter of Barnett's 8th Avenue tower that could be one of the big ones. But we have enough on our plate to worry about for now. :)

(though that could return at some point).

That's the point.
Every tower along the W. 57th corridor have no spire, yet are competing for the top spot on the skyline.

Now, I'd be very interested in seeing a tower climb taller than the spire atop 1 WTC without a spire.

Can that happen?

Yes.

There may or may not be at least one tower on the boards that would achieve this.

Barnett still has a development planned on 8th Ave which should be pretty big. I hope we hear more about that at some point.

Honestly, the building looks great without the spire.

Shwayze1994 Oct 15, 2015 10:09 PM

Can someone link me to this Barnett tower please?

I'm surprised that these new towers along the W. 57th corridor have not been design by Lord Foster, yet look insanely great!

I'm still in shock that his 2 WTC design was scrapped.
I hope to see more of his amazing work in future supertall development in the city.

Every one of his towers make me pause and smile. :)
Let's all hope this continues for many years to come!

Foster did submit a design proposal for the Central Park Tower but obviously it lost out.

Foster definitely deserves to have an NYC supertall and maybe he will end up designing the residential supertall that Larry Silverstein is developing on West 41st considering that Silverstein did recently state that he expects to work with Foster again.

The first two are Lord Foster's, the other two are Richard Rogers. Neither design would really fit in on billionaire's row to be perfectly honest, both are too bulky but I feel like either design would fit in much better at the Hudson Yards and/or Midtown East.

I think it's best that way. How it ultimately plays out will be determined by the upcoming skyscraper wars. ;)

Can somebody explain why they are not pouring concrete on the floor plates. I can imagine that will be hard to do later, especially with bottom floors. Chris, Crawford...anybody?
