Energy company shifts HQ to Austin, inks space at Colorado Tower alongside Aussie firm

Two companies new to Austin have signed leases in the Colorado Tower currently under construction at 303 Colorado St. in downtown Austin’s warehouse district.

Parsley Energy is moving its headquarters from Midland in West Texas and has secured 73,843 square feet in the building. The company cites recruitment factors as a big reason for its decision to relocate most of its personnel here.

Australia-based Atlassian Software Systems Pty Ltd., which had announced in February that it could bring as many as 300 jobs to the area, has also signed for 24,411 square feet.

Tim Hendricks, senior vice president of developer Cousins Properties Inc., said the leases were negotiated during the past eight weeks.

“This is really cool. I think Parsley will be the largest oil and gas company based in Austin,” Hendricks said.

Austin sure is building a lot of new hotels. Just wondering, but is Austin severely lacking in hotels downtown? Are the downtown hotels usually full?

Occupancy is always high due to the increase in tourism and a lot of big events/conventions.

This really does seem to be taking a very long time. I didn't realize there were going to be two cranes.

Waller Park Place

This may have been posted before, but here is something I found online here: http://www.ibigroup.com/projects/waller-park-place

The project consists of three high-rise towers: a 21-story office building above an urban grocer; a 46-story residential tower; and a 38-story retail, hotel, and residential tower. A common podium base will provide underground and above-grade parking as well as numerous retail, dining, and entertainment uses along surrounding streets and overlooking Waller Creek.

They're cooking with gas now. Probably on floor 17 now? Another 12 or 13 to go.

It's up to about 200 feet now.

OU812 Apr 8, 2014 7:40 PM

Still, to have it ready for move-in by year's end is quite impressive. I guess office towers finish quicker than residential. Which would make sense now that I think about it since each floor is basically left empty, with only utilities in place.

That is correct.

Also consider the fact that almost half of Colorado Tower is a parking garage.
