Beautiful Chinese Garden. Both Vancouver and Winnipeg have awesome ones too, but Calgary doesn't have anything like that. I really wish it did.
And gorgeous Kitchener shots, Advance. Quote:

Really outstanding shots from Montreal's botanical gardens.

Gaahhh, I love that one. That's perfection, as far as the built form goes. :D Throw in a few hills and it'd be perfect full stop. |

November 3
A delightful taste of late summer in St. John's today. Sunny and the temperature peaked at 18.5C. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...0_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...2_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...4_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...5_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...6_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...7_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...9_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...0_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...1_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...2_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...3_edited-L.jpg |
Just beautiful... this one really looks like St. John's in a nutshell.

St. John's has a bit of a curse when it comes to taking photographs facing it. With a few prominent exceptions, you only ever see the backside of our downtown. My MS Paint attempt to explain: http://i57.tinypic.com/mta493.jpg All those plain buildings down close to the harbour are actually the beautiful stone facades of Water and Duckworth. You just only ever see their hideous backsides. :haha: |
An example for ya...
This is what you see (more or less) when facing the city: http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...6_edited-L.jpg So the above is taken about half-way between Water and Duckworth Street, right where the Water Street buildings end and the Duckworth ones begin. Below is taken from the far side of Duckworth, looking at the Duckworth-facing side of the same buildings above: http://i59.tinypic.com/o8gbk8.jpg We should count the backside of our buildings for height. :haha: Half the downtown would be 7-10 floors. |
I love St. John's! I think it has an amazing juxtaposition of styles, colours, and even height.
|
For some reason I like the view from the back better. I suppose I've always been an ass man though. ;)
|
:haha: Thanks, guys.
Nouvelleecosse: Well, there's nothing ornate or fancy about any of our general commercial buildings. So for someone from Halifax, the fronts are plain and unremarkable... but the backs might have some sort of urban vibe. |
Gastown, Vancouver
|
Those backs remind me of this photo I found on Wikipedia of Paris, Ontario (not to be confused with Paris, Texas)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...verfront_1.JPG Source Wikimedia user Balcer, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...verfront_1.JPG There's a very old-school urban vibe to these row buildings (as with the NL ones posted above). |
